Is mid-May a good time to go?

You will notice that according to my ticker, I should be arriving in WDW in January. However, that may not work out. Plan B is to go in May instead. We usually go in January and love it! Value season, low crowds, cooler weather. How does May measure up? Mid-May is the tail end of "Regular Season" so the expense will not be too much more and I really don't mind warmer weather. My main concern is the crowd level (remember, we are spoiled from going in January). I figure that most kids will still be in school mid-May? Maybe? Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! Karen

May is my favorite time of year to visit. The crowds are moderate (by Disney standards) but the weather is usually glorious and if you time it right, the Flower and Garden Festival is on. Even with higher crowd levels than January, I still think it's the best month to visit.

The crowds are a bit bigger but not by a lot. The MK is always really crowded on it's early entry day and week ends. The Epcot Flower and Garden Festival is going on which is very colorful.
My 6 trips in May have been anywhere fromt he firt 10 days to the middle 10 days. I am always out of there before Memorial day week end.
The weather has ranged from nice, in the high 70's to low 80's, to the mid 80's with an occasional spike into the 90's, to every day being in the mid 90's. It has been pretty humid sometimes and not so bad other times. There is very little rain. A couple trips there was no rain at all. Mostly you might get a big thunderstorm or two on the whole trip.

we've been 2 years in a row in May and it's beautiful. Definitely a great time to go! Try to go within the first 2 weeks of the month though...it starts to get hotter and more crowded towards the end of the month

We went in May for the first time this year and loved it! We left just before it was supposed to get really hot and before the crowds came in from schools ending. It was warm but comfortable and not humid like we've experienced in September. The crowds weren't bad at all. We only fast passed a few times. The Flower and Garden fest was beautiful...May was a definite winner. :thumbsup2

May, Sept and Oct have been my months to go....since 1971/72 and
it's a "wonderful" time. :cloud9:

Pool weather for sure and tons of kids...still in school :rotfl2:

Do keep in mind, though, that it gets pretty crowded Mother's Day weekend.

:sad2: May is a terrible time to go! The flowers are terrible the crowds are even worse! It seems even the great chefs take their vacations in May so the food is bad too! :sad2:

Please tell everyone you know the above! It might help keep the great secret of May hushed up a bit! :rotfl:

Just one more in agreement. We went the second week this year and it was very nice. It was warm, (which made us northerners delighted to use the pools before anyone at home), but not to the extreme. It wasn't a walk on to the rides, but it wasn't bad. And hey, it was Disney with family and that makes it delightful regardless...

Oh thank you guys for the info!!!!!!!!!! I am dissapointed that we may not get to go in January but it sounds that May might even be better anyway. As soon as I know for sure that January won't work, I'll change my ticker to sometime early in May (making sure to avoid Mother's Day weekend). Thanks for the tips!

We went at the end of May/beginning of June in 05 and even though we were there over Mem. Day I was shocked that the crowds were not unbearable. We did all the attractions in every park...several times too!

I know I've said it before, but the only time I noticed it was bad was at MGM near Star Tours because it was Star Tours weekend.

The humidity was a killer though.

I'm so glad to hear all of this! I've always gone in Oct/Nov and next year 13 family members and I are going May 6 - 12. I'm prepared for the heat, but I was worried about crowds. Good to know! I won't stress as much now.
