Is Mid-Late August quiet in WDW?

Hi everyone, still trying to find the best date for us to go. When do the US kids go back to school/college? Is it quiet Mid August for 2 weeks?

I understand it will be very hot then - rain I can cope with, very hot weather not. I have a child who is AS and while we can get the passes he will just freak with there being so many people around him.

When we go to DLP it is usually so quiet that the characters are annoying US and you get bored from going around.. and around... and around... on the rides!! (First week after Fireworks but after the French Bank Holiday if anyone is interested)

So when is a good time to go. i want to use the Disney Dining Plan they are giving free but the good old UK tour operators like to hike their prices up that time of year but what are the crowds like then.

I live in Florida and if you can not deal with the heat, DO NOT go to Disney World in August. On top of being hurricane season, it is the hottest and most humid month of the year. Kids in the south go back to school in August, but the kids up North don't go back until the beginning of September. If you don't want crowds, try the end of September, begining of October. Try The first two weeks of December. Or consider the second week of January through mid February. Those are the least crowded times of the year. In December, January and February it will be pleasant during the day and chilly as the sun starts to set. Bring jackets and sweathshirts. And don't forget the sunblock!!!

I've been going to WDW for the past 3 years in mid-August, and it is HOTTT and still crowded! This past summer we got stuck in the middle of Hurricane Faye!! The reason we still do it is cuz we're already used to it, and it kinda wouldn't be Florida-ishy if we didn't go during that time.
Although the local kids are in school, the Northeast kids (incl. myself) bum-rush it down there.

But we're gonna try going in March of next year this time around.

we went at the end of august it was hot but we took nap breaks at lunch. during the weekdays it wasn't too crowded . it was more crowded for the weekend and we noticed more tour groups saturday & sunday.

Thank you. I thought this might be the case, it looks like we will not be ale to make the most of this offer then. Oh well.

We have been before, 1st time we arrived 30th December 2000 - when Florida got frost for the first time in years - it was quiet and we had a good time (not so at Discovery Cove when it was 40 degrees and we were in wetsuits!! ) but last time was late Jan/Early Feb. It was quiet then too but now we are tied with the kids being back at school and it would mean that I's have to take them out for 12 school day - which it is unlikely the school will let me do.

I think I'll get a brochure and find when the cheapest times are then!! You can usually tell when it is quietest as it is much cheaper!!
