Is Legoland worth $200 for one day?

We're really on the fence about adding a day at Legoland this fall. My kids have never been. We'd be there on Veteran's Day if we went. It would be our last day of our vacation (the other 4 days at DLR) on our way out of town. We have 4 kids, ages 7, 6, 4 & 2. They all like Legos and the Lego games on the Xbox. We were given 3 BOGO coupons, so the total with parking appears to be $207, not including food.

It looks like a lot of the stuff at Legoland is more suited for summer since much of it seems to involve water. I'm worried that there won't be much to do.

So should I add an extra day at DLR (which would be like $10 since only DH and DS would need to upgrade their passes, the rest of us have AP's and parking is already including in our hotel stay for that day) or give Legoland a shot?

We went last fall over fall break (from AZ, too), and I didn't think there was that much that was water-related other than the main pirate water-play area. There is a ride next to it that that you can shoot each other with water guns, but with the angles, distance, and pressure, we barely got sprinkled! It was a warm day, and I had hopes ...

To me, the biggest issue with going in fall is the hours. The park isn't even open on Tues and Wed, and the other weekdays have hours like 10-5 and most of the shows are dark.

We had a lot of fun with our 4 kids, but if you're talking a lot of extra money and driving time, I might think about waiting a couple years, especially until the younger ones can ride everything. I think the park is suited best from about 4-10 year olds.

Also, look at the height reqiurements carefully. Is your 4-year-old tall enough to ride most things? DS last fall at 3.5 just missed 40 inches and missed a lot (they are even stricter than Disney). Also, your two oldest would have to be tall enough to ride without a parent (48-52 inches for most rides) if you and DH would be riding with the littler ones.

Thanks for the heads up on their hours. We were thinking about going in November, so I really need to check into this. :goodvibes I have been wondering about the prices too, it seems a little pricey.

We went in 2007 when our twin boys were 6 and our daughter was 2, almost 3. We were there at T-giving and did not have any trouble with the weather and did not do anything involving water. We had a wonderful time and would have liked another day there. We are going back to DL in Sept., and all three kids really want to go back to Legoland. They are really looking forward to it. There's a lot to do, especially if you have Lego fans already. My kids enjoyed the rides and the displays.

But - $200 is $200. $200 vs. $10 - I would stay another day at DL if money is tight. If you've got the spending room, its worth going to, in my opinion.

Have fun!

I guess I should have added to my post to say that I definitely think Legoland is worth a one-day trip -- just maybe not this trip, depending on the OP's variables: time, money, ages of children, etc.

If she's like a lot of us from AZ, she's probably over to So Cal a lot (with the DLR annual passes :)), so it might make sense to do it on a later trip, maybe in the summer when there is more to do and longer hours. We did 4.5 days in San Diego last fall with our kids and easily could go back and spend equally as long doing new things we didn't have time for.

Legoland isn't as complicated as going to DLR, but I wouldn't want to be disappointed by showing up on a day it's closed, or having kids too short to ride by themselves (they have generous minimum heights, but very tall heights to ride w/o a parent). We went despite DS3 being a tad short because we wanted to take DS12 one more time before he got too old.

We went for a day and had a great time. We had a B1G1 so it was only 2 adult admissions. Both kids had a blast -- we weren't expecting a lot and it was great!

I have 2 DDs ages 4 and 6 and we have no trouble spending a day there each trip (usually from 10-4 or so). We haven't ever seen a show or spent any time in the water area so those being closed would not affect our fun! They love the kids ride area in the back and can ride all those by themselves (they are 40-44 inches) again and again and they both love driving the cars. We still have some rides to grow into too, so could go for years to come! We also have fun just taking pictures with all the cool LEGO sculptures everywhere!

At the end of a Disneyland trip I don't know...you might be pretty tired and not as easily able to enjoy it. But it is worth doing sometime.

Seems like a lot of money - possible things to look into to reduce the cost:
1. costco sells tickets in the stores here in so cal. Not sure what the current price is - last year was about $45 I think for an adult day
2. join the brickmaster club for a free child coupon. $50, but it comes with some small kits and the magazine quarterly- and the mag has coupons often.
3. check AAA if you're a member. They have discount deals too.
4. Sometimes I see free tix show up on the disboard
I'd pick DL for the extra $10 , but Legoland is nice, esp for small children. Much slower paced than DL. The Miniland models are amazing even for adults to see.

I find the food quality terrible -- you may want to bring a picnic lunch instead! I have a friend who swears that Tip Top Meats -nearby - has the best breakfast in the world with freshly prepared sausages.

Thanks for the advice. I think we're going to do it.

Phxscuba- We do indeed go all the time to Disneyland. :) Thanks for mentioning height. My 4.5 yo is tall enough. I'll hang back with my little guy and that's fine with me. Oh and Nov. 11th is a Wed, but they are open that day because it's a holiday I guess. :goodvibes

Lcasa- we already have the BOGO on tickets. A one day ticket is $65 for adults. 3 BOGO's x65= 195. But thanks for the advice on deals and to bring our own food. Nothing worse than over priced theme park food.

For anyone who's looking for a better discount, I just found this online. You can enter code 295-teacher and get any one day ticket (adult or child) for $35. It's good until the end of the year. Not a bad deal! I really wasn't concerned about the $200 (well unless the place sucked and I felt like I wasted it, that is :lmao:) but if I can save $$, I'm all for that!

Since my littlest one won't be 3 yet on the trip, we're going to do that. Well actually we're going to do 2 of the BOGO's and one of the $35, which should make it $155 instead. (or possibly $165. BOGO coupon just says one of equal or lesser value. So if they let us do BOGO on the kids, it'll be $155. $165 if they make us do 4 adults instead).

We've been to DLR about a million times, so I think the kids will enjoy Legoland. I'm sure I'll feel like we're not getting enough time at DLR, but I think the kids will enjoy the change. They've been begging to go for years, so I'll get that out of the way (or learn we love it and make it a repeat thing :goodvibes )

Thanks again, everyone!

Mom2micayla.....I'm glad you decided to go for it. I didn't chime in earlier, but read all the great advice from other posters. We added a day at Legoland to our Disneyland trip last year with our 7 & 4 year olds, and were so pleasantly surprised that we are going to do it again. Even if you guys don't feel like it was worth the $200-ish after the day there is over (although I can't imagine that)....you will have done it and won't have to wonder/debate/think about going again. Have a wonderful time!

I think your kids are the perfect ages to go to Legoland. LL has a different vibe than Disney and is much more laid-back and small scale, but that's okay. My kids love Space Mountain but they also love The Dragon. Its hard to imagine that those rides could attract the same type but they do. And I hardly second Lcasa statment on food. Its uniformly horrible and makes things at Disneyland seem like a bargain which is hard to imagine. Have great day!

We did legoland November last year with an 8 and 6 year old and we LOVED it. All the rides were so well suited for them and there was hardly any crowds. My kids are Lego fans and we're going back this year with all four of our kiddos to do it again. We just had such a great time.

We have a 6 year old and a 3 year old. They LOVE Legoland. We are also from AZ but we went over the summer for two days. Because we were there over the summer, the kids spend about half a day at that pirate splash area. Even without the pirate splash area, we could have easily filled up our 2 days there.

We are planning to go to LL on Sept. 28, Monday and I would love to get the $35 ticket. Am I just missing something? Where do I get that discount?:confused3 Thanks!

So far our ticket situation looks like this:
Free admission (from brickmaster will use it on hubby)

Me full price ($65) ...not sure if I can use a Save $8 on a one day ticket and still use the BOGO ticket....guess I will see when I get there.

Son 8 Free with BOGO

Son 12 $35 (if I can get the discount from this post)

Final price: $100

My kids are Lego nuts! and they are SO looking forward to this experience.
Thanks again!

OK I answered my own question with the help of your post I googled the code and the word Legoland.....

this is what I found. LL is having Teacher Apperciation days until Sept. 30 and with the printable coupon Teachers get in FREE!!!! and there friends and family get in for $25.95!!

(I guess you can tell that I am a teacher and our school district in Idaho lets out for two weeks for potato harvesting...;) don't worry we start extra early because of this)

So now we are looking at a family of four getting in to LL for:

$51.95 (that works out to $12.98 pp)

I am so happy right now, thanks so much!!
