Hi, I would like to take my laptop with me to BC/AKL on my upcoming trip in November, but am concerned about leaving it in my room while I am in the parks. What does everyone else do with it when they bring one? I am feeling a little nervous. I read on the online PC site that the locks you can buy are easily cut off....

I have no idea what I would do with it. I'm pretty sure Universal's on-site hotels have safes you can put stuff like laptops in. I would call the hotel you are staying at and ask them.

I would ask this question on the Disney Resorts board.

We left out laptop at CSR and nothing happened to it. BUT I think they sell a laptop lock that you can buy at any office supply/electronics store!

I have left my laptop open and out on the room tables at WDW and Universal hotels - never had any issues. Am I being foolish?

I usually place large ticket items such as my laptop in my suitcase with a zipper lock on the suitcase. This seems to works really well because it is very unlikely that a potential thief would have the time to break into you suitcase or even take your suitcase without being caught. Hope this helps.

We have left our laptops out on several visits and didn't have a problem. But we also have a tendency to use the Do Not Disturb when that occurs. If we need the room to be serviced then we place it in the bag a put to the side.

I leave my computer out in the room and havent ever had any problems. If you are worried about it, the in room safe will hold a small-midsized laptop.

We put ours in the safe sometimes but mostly just left it out. We also don't use housekeeping while we are there so nobody should be in our room other than us.

I have taken my laptop several times and I usually just put it in my luggage, but I have left it out and it has been fine.

Would you leave $3000 in cash sitting out on a table at a hotel? No? Then why leave a small, easily concealed item that's worth $3000 out on a table?

I lock my laptop up. Sure, it's possible to cut through those locking cables, but it's not easy. I figure it's the same principal as The Club - it will not stop a determined professional, but it will slow them down just enough to make them move on to the next car that doesn't have a Club.

Likewise, if my laptop is locked up to something, a thief who is looking for a quick, loose item to grab and run with will not be able to simply tuck it under his arm and run out.

No matter how many people post, "I stuck my head in the oven while it was on and didn't get burned!" it is never safe to stick one's head in the oven while it's on. The same goes for leaving small, portable, easily concealed valuables such as electronics, jewelry, cameras, or cash simply lying about unsecured in a hotel room.

Lock 'em up, friends. Before they walk away.

Thanks everyone for your advice! I kind of feel like Willcad. It is just so easy to pick up a laptop, throw a sheet over it and be gone.... I like both the idea of putting it in your suitcase and locking the suitcase as well as the locking cable. I think it would not be the theft of choice to have to hack through a lock to get the laptop!

We do the put it away in a suitcase route. The suitcase goes into the closet and is locked. I can't bring myself to just leave it out in plain sight. :sad2:

We have a notebook that we bring with us so we can dump our digital pictures - we always pack it up in the computer bag and then lock it inside of our suitcase which we always store in the closet.

Man, I'm tired just typing that. :teeth:

I don't know why the hubby and I never thought about buying a computer lock...but I'm going to mention it to him right now. Thanks for the advice!
