You know what? I never really bought into the "food diary" thing, but I really think it helps. When I do keep a food diary, I actually pay attention to what I eat and follow it. If I don't, then I tend to cheat.
A lot of times, I have a diary for breakfast and lunch, and then it goes out the window for dinner-- it only works if you actually do write everything down!!
For me success is writing down everything I put in my mouth!!!! And how much water I'm drinking and how much exercise I'm getting - doing the July exercise challenge really helped me see how much exercise I was getting.
Food diary's definatly help. Fitday is great. It helps because you can keep track of calories and actually finally find out the fat content and how some foods that seem healthy really aren't at all.
I am one that really needs to be held accountable and I find that food journaling really works for me. I tend to forget about a snack here and there if I don't. When I don't journal I put the weight back on because I really have no sense of what I am eating.
For me a food journal is absolutely critical. Its so easy to forget how much you really have consumed. For naturally thin people, their appetites keep track for them. Not for me! It is also very helpful for me when I slip up. If I have a few bad days in the week and faithfully record them, then I am not so shocked when my weekly WI doesn't go so well. Its easy to forget you slipped and then get frustrated when the scale doesn't show a loss. For me, the food journal is a big reality check.
Hi
I'm a fitness tech for an exercise club for women, I did a survivor game for some of our memeber part of the game was keeping a food diary. By the end of 6 weeks I had 40 ladies left and between them they lost over 100lb.s and 150 inches. So yes keeping a food diary does work. Good Luck
Hi, NikkiBell! I think that a food and exercise journal has helped me more than anything else! I really helps to write down EVERYTHING you eat and seeing what is causing you to gain or lose! I can't believe how much I was eating before I was writing it all down! YIKES, I was eating, like, 3500 calories a day!
