Is June going to be miserable?

We're looking into going to Disney World again after a 5 year hiatus but it's looking like the first half of June is going to be the only time we can go. And since it took 5 years for hubby to agree to going back, I'm not going to be too picky about when it actually happens!

However, June. In Florida. :sigh: What's the temps like? How about the humidity? I do not like the heat/humidity at all, take on the appearance of a wilted flower when it gets hot enough.

Am I going to be miserable down there? Course I know it'll be different then say going in July or August, but what's June look like? What about the crowds? Figuring on the 2nd or 3rd week in June.

Last time we went it was in December and it was almost perfect. A wee bit colder then I'd like for swimming, but for the park it was beautiful! And the crowds were amazing! Only got what I'd consider crowded on our last day there..which was a Tuesday I think.

We went June 08 found the weather to be very hot and humid... Were from RI so are use to very Mild Summers... It did rain every day... Those sudden random storms can be nasty even saw lightning a few times... Hubby tells me every year we don't need our poncho's from prior visits but every time he finds himself buying one for himself so we can still work the parks in the rain!!! Rain is a bummer for a lot of people but Im fine with it!!! If useing a stroller always cover it when it's parked cause you never know when it'll start downpouring. Learned my lesson after a lunch @ Hollywood and Vine were my DD wasn't happy to walk while her stroller dried!

We went last year for our first visit and have vowed to not ever return in June. My kids favorite part of the trip was the pools. We left the parks early every day and went swimming. I am looking at hopefully returning in October or 2011 or 2012.

June is pretty much the same as July & Aug. in Florida, steamy hot & humid. Typically there is an afternoon rainstorm sometimes a thunderstorm. It will be more crowded as well as most of the southern schools end by then so kids will be on summer vacation (here in NY we go till the end of June). I took dd about 3 years ago on a June trip & didn't like it at all. We much prefer early Oct & Dec. I remember sitting on a curb watching the parade feeling like my crocs were melting into the street!

We have also gone in June (twice) and have vowed never to do that again. But we are from CA and we have no humidity. We were dying on the days we went to AK, we were only in that park for a couple of hours. BUT if that was the only time you can go... then I say go for it. It took me 4 years to drag my DH along again (otherwise I just leave him at home).
Have fun!!!

We went the first week of June 08 and we didn't think the weather was that bad at all. Trust me, DH hates being hot and he never complained. Plus, when we went the lines for everything were short. I couldn't believe it. I guess we got there before everyone else did for the summer.

It will only be miserable if you let it! Go in with a positive attitude and have fun. If it is very hot/humid, hydrate often. If lines are long, make a list of one favorite ride per person. Enjoy an airconditioned meal. Seriously, you can make any trip wonderful if you try and on the flip side, you can also make it miserable. We chose to make our trips wonderful, no matter what.

Go and enjoy!:thumbsup2

Great advice. We can only go in the summer. We used to go in July. It was hot and humid but we took breaks, drank lots of water, and had a blast. The past two years we have gone in mid-June. I have found that June is a bit less hot and humid....

We enjoy any time we are there. You can have a great time in June - just plan ahead

We went the second week of June last year. We are from TX so didn't think it was that hot, but it was humid. Just wear loose fitting clothes and drink plenty of water. It only rained one afternoon we were there and that was just a light afternoon shower. The crowds weren't that bad in the beginning of the week but the crowd grew towards the end of the week. We had a plan, started early and used fast passes. We were on DDP and did a late lunch almost everyday. We spent over an hour at each lunch (sometimes 2) and that gave us the break we needed and we were ready to head back to the park and finish out the day. We would do it again in a heart beat! Have a great time.

so what! We always go during the summer heat, and we have a blast anyway! Keep hydrated, swim during the worst of the day's heat, take breaks in airconditioned shows, you've heard it all! Stay positive, and have a blast. We'll be there in June, too, so we'll be suffering right along with you!

Wow lots of info, thanks so much!

We'll be coming from NC so we're familiar with hot and humid, only ours seems to bother me more in July and August.

I'd forgotten about increased chances of rainstorms during that time, but something easily fixed with ponchos and knowing you won't melt if it rains  And since the youngest is 7 a stroller won't be an issue.

I like the idea of a long lunch to rest. We did something along these lines when we were there back in 2005

Again, thank you for the info and heads up.

It was HOT!!!!! and we had a 2y/o DD, but it was a GREAT trip as prev posters have said, it is what you make of it
We went at an extremely leisurely pace, drank LOTS of water, took the afternoon breaks at the pools and wore all the "cool" types of clothes

One of teh best investments i can say w/o a doubt are the moisture wicking socks are the BEST!:wizard:

Yes it will hot humid and rainy but you are still DW. Knowing this plan to your advantage..have ponchos ready, buy some mister fans at Walmart and take an afternoon break when you can. The busiest and hottest part of the day is the afternoon. Go back to your hotel, take a swim, eat lunch, take a nap , a shower whatever to get a break. Then go back in the evening. Like PP stated go with a positive attitude. Oh! and bring an extra pair of shoes when your first ones get wet you have a dry pair ready to go(not with you in park)!

I guess it is a matter of perspective.

We have gone the past 4 years in August, but because our Annual Passes expire 8/1 this year we are going in June. I don't know if it will be better than August, but I bet it won't be worse! :rotfl2:

We went the 2nd week of June last year. It was Hot and Humid. We visited the baby centers, got free ice water, had some dole whips and took breaks in the afternoon. We sweated a lot, but we planed ahead, had some mister fans from walmart for 1/3 the cost of Disney's. Yes, the weather can be miserable, but it did not make our vacation miserable.

I guess it is all in perspective. In looking at the posts and seeing where folks are from..minus a few that don't have locations posted, it looks like anyone that lives in the North part of the country say June is hot in Florida. Those that live in the South are saying it's no big deal

Course knowing what our summers are like here in the South we should do fine then. I just have to keep reminding myself...it's been 5 years since we've been, it could be another 5 before we go if we don't go this year because we can only go in June.

Surely that'll get me through however hot it is

We'll be there in June...weather will not be a huge concern for us. We'll be happy to be back home...even if it's hot and humid!

We'll be there the first week of June, which has been we've gone the past few trips and had a MAGICAL time!!! We're from Texas so we're used to the heat and humidity - never seems to bother us when we're at WDW, though!!! :)

Everyone gave great advice and here is what I have found that helps us: WATER - I bring gatorade packets for in the afternoon, fill up a larger water bottle at night 3/4 full and put it in the freezer (it has an insulated cover) so the water stays cold longer, FRUIT - great for snacks b/c it helps quench thirst, too.... cut up oranges, grapes, watermelon are our favorites, MISTER FANS bought beforehand, LONG LUNCHES in the A/C - our refresher! Take breaks from the rides in air-conditioned shows, too. ICE CREAM, DOLE WHIPS, POPSICLES in the afternoon...

And yes, it will probably rain, but that's okay b/c we'll be prepared.....

Have FUN - we can't wait!!!!
