We will be cruising on points next July and do not intend to visit the parks next year. Is it worth it to spend $40 for the year to get discounts on excursions and in shops (although through DVC I already get discounts on shops and park tickets). If I was paying cash for the cruise, I would get the $50 shipboard credit, correct?

I think it is.

First, I'm not sure you're excluded from getting the $50 credit because you are cruising on points. I just reread the thread on the top of the page and it doesn't say anything about excluding DVC cruisers.

I use it for discounts on shopping at the Disney Store and for shopping online at the Disney Store for a 10% discount.

I use it for additional discounts on ticket media. I get a Fl Res discount and the Disney Club discount is additive to that.

You also get the Entertainment Club icon on your card, but you can't use it for hotels around Disney.

hope that helps

we booked our upcomming cruise on DVC points, and I had already joined the Disney club because of the saving we will make on 3 premium annual passes. Then they started the $50 credit promotion and I tried to claim it, but have had no luck. First off I asked DVC for it and they refered me to the Disney club who have not even bothered replying to my e mails.

Becaause I would be phoning from the UK it would probably cost that $50 to try to speak to someone on the phone, so I have given up trying for it, I think maybe you have to quote your Disney club membership number when you BOOK the cruise:confused:

When you book your cruise on points through DVC Member Services, you will not be allowed to utilize the $50 Disney Club shipboard credit. That being said, you may still find the Disney Club worthwhile in order to obtain discounts on park passes, discount at The Disney Store and other various promotions and mailings thru them.

Unless you have some special deal that I haven't heard about--DVC membership does not receive any discounts on passports. Only Disney Club gives a passport discount. The first few years it was offered, DVC provided passes to members. This deal no longer exists.

DVC gives a 10% discount if you purchase your passes upon checkin for length of stay. I think you can even drop your arrival or departure day if you wanted.
