Is Jan a good time to visit WDW?

I think you'll find its the quietest time, but with that comes shorter park hours, cooler weather and more refurbs and closures (including one waterpark)

However, this is just want I've learnt from reading the boards and listening to the podcast. I've not been in Jan.

Argentinian tour groups, shorter park hours, way cooler weather and lots of refurbs.

okay when should I go do not want to be too crowed but not 1000's of refurbs. Not worried about costs. But do not want silly heat either

the weather can be unpredictable. Its not horrible, but you do need to dress in layers. We have been there and been in shorts and t-shirts other years it was jackets, sweaters and gloves weather.

There are no longer any times where it isn't too crowded. It basically swings between "pretty busy" to "unbelievably crowded". Disney has done a good job at creating demand during times of the year when there previously was no demand. Even in January with marathon weekend, it can be busy.

I believe it was last year that on MLK Day, the Magic Kingdom was filled to capacity. We will be there next year, but that Monday is our "jet lag" day, so we'll be lounging around our resort and having lunch at Disney Springs.

Jet lag?! Within the USA? Tell him he's dreamin (famous quote from a very Australian movie called "the castle")

We went the last week of Jan this year. It was a bit cold so bring some mittens to start and end the day. We still wore shorts most days with a light jacket. We went in the pool a couple of times but it was a chilly walk back to the room.
We did have a tourgroup staying at our hotel (Port Orleans) and were planning on asking to be moved away from them after a loud night, but they were all packing up to leave when we headed to breakfast so the rest of the week was quiet.
We've never gotten through Animal Kingdom more than half a day in the heat but have to say that we spent the whole day in January and were sorry that they closed at 5pm. Touring the parks while it's cool is much better for us than when the sun is beating down.
We will definitely go again in January.

We're taking the in-laws this trip, so we've take into consideration health concerns when vacation planning. Having a "jet lag" day on one of the potential busiest park days just makes sense.
