Let me try to explain this as clearly as I can ...

DM & I are AP holders. DSister & DFriend aren't, so they need tickets.

We were going to get them basic 8-day tickets and they'd pay for Disney Quest / Pleasure Island if the need arose.

Currently we have 2 rooms booked at AP rate at POP, each room is $605.25 for 7 nights. Their tickets would cost $470.74 which brings the total to $1075.99.

Now there's this new offer with free hoppers & free options (DQ/PI/water parks). I was thinking we could give up the AP discount for the required 3 nights so that they can take advantage of that offer.
They could get the 8-days hoppers+options, and the 7 nights at POP, for only $90.23.

We (DM & I) love hopping. We hop a LOT. The last 2 days are not planned, we'll do whatever we feel like doing. I can already picture us paying for the hopper option at the last minute at a park because we decided to hop to MGM for Fantasmic or something like that. Then, we'd pay about the same ($90), would not have been able to hop prior to that, and they would not have gotten the free entries to DQ and PI.

However, because there needs to be one AP holder per room, I would need to

1. Shorten both our original AP ressies to 4 nights (DM & DSister in 1 room, DFriend & I in the other).
2. Make a new AP reservation for DM & I at AP rate for the first 3 nights.
3. Make a new Free-Hopper etc... reservation for DSister & DFriend for the first 3 nights.

Total of 4 reservations for 1 week all at the same resort. Is it worth the trouble ?
Also, if we do this, will we be able to keep the same rooms since the "groups" will have changed ?

Phew !!!! That was a moutful. Glad I didn't have to explain this to a poor CM on the phone :scared:

Ok... first of all, I would definitely go for the discounts, however act quickly because things will go fast.

2nd, you may have to switch rooms, however I think I may have a way of avoiding that.

I also think you can get away with making only 3 reservations, which would be the key to not switching rooms.

I would make the first reservation with the AP discount for the entire length of stay. This would be a room only reservation and I would put an AP holder and one of the others as the names on the reservation (just because there are certain names on a room it does not really matter who sleeps in there as long as you only have the same number of adults in the room).

I would then make a 2nd reservation for the 3 nights in order to get the free options on the tickets. I would make this for your first three nights so that they have the tickets available the entire time you're there. I would also make this reservation in the name of the 2 who need the tickets.

Finally, I would make a 3rd reservation in the name of the other AP holder and one of the non-AP holders with the discounts for the remainder of your stay (once again remembering that Disney does not know your names, as long as you have the correct number of people and they are of the correct ages, ie. adults or kids, Disney does not care).

The final key is to request that all of these rooms be connected/adjoining.

Good Luck! Let me know if you have any other questions or need further explaining. Hope that all made sense!

they DO ask your names! When you book, they require you to list everyone that will be staying in the room. Not that they care where you sleep, but you won't be able to have a person listed on 2 different ressies for the same dates. I don't think that will work. Sorry!:confused3

You're right. I called yesterday & discussed this with a CM. He told me that I would need to make 4 separate reservations, as I can't have 2 reservations for 1 person, especially not at AP rate AND in the same resort. So, 4 different reservations (with deposits) is what it took. I went with it. Kind of complicated but now we can all hop, and they can go to Disney Quest for free :)
