I had not planned on renting a car, but as our trip approaches, i want to be sure I have covered all my bases.

I already have a town car (FL Tours) for $92 picking us up and dropping us off (airport to Port Orleans French Quarter)

We are planning 1 day at Universal- last time we used a Mears taxi service I believe.

How much faster is it to take a car to the park, park, walk to gate (or wait for tram)? vrs getting on a bus. meaning length of time from departing resort, to walking thru the gates. Doesnt having your own car mean more walking?

How much would I pay for a trip May 5-11th?
Where would I get the car? Anything on Disney property?
How would I return the car? Can I leave it at the resort for them to pick up?

I do hate walking.
I also think we might want to return to our hotel for a mid-day break.

The bus system at CBR seemed to be okay for the most part when I was there, I never paid attention to how long I waited for buses, but I do remember I was disinclined to return mid-day because of the length of time it took to get to and from (I had no idea how big Disney World was. Not sure a car would make a difference.

I know asking if I should rent a car on the transportation board, is probably akin to asking a kid if they like chocolate, but please give me your honest opinion.

EDITED to add, I have a voucher to get my AP- its already paid in full, can someone give me the ID from the pass sleeve? Or can I get this thru Disney somewhere- I know when I called to get info on were to get discounts it was pain- I see that you can get 20% off your car at National with it.

It is a fairly personal choice. There are a number of people here who don't like renting cars and then others like me that won't go if they can't have their own car. So, I am sure you will get a number of varying opinions. For me, I like the freedom to come and go as I please. I don't like waiting for busses at all. I want to be able to leave where I am and go to where I want to go without having to wait or make transfers. A lot of people like a vacation from driving, I love to drive. I use the car to go off property to eat on occasion and shop at the Disney outlets as well as exploring Orlando. Sometimes we resort hop too and I have heard that if you do this without a car and need to make transfers you need to allow an hour. That won't work with me, I am too impatient I guess when I can drive there in less than 10 minutes.

We drive everywhere on the property. I don't recall ever waiting for more than a minute or two for a tram in the parking lots, they seem to be in constant rotation. A lot of people who rent cars will take the busses to MK since they drop you off at the gate, but drive to the other parks.

Check out some of the codes on www.mousesavers.com and put in your dates and see what rates you come up with. It may not cost you very much more than you are currently going to have to spend on a limo and transfers to Universal depending on how big of a car you need for the size of your party.

Its just the 2 of us (DH and me). Ill will check out Mousesavers-im familiar with them.

I know I enjoy the relaxation of having someone take my bags when i get off the plane and I can look around and enjoy the scenery as someone else drives me.

But maybe it would be worth it.....
