Is it worth leaving Magic Kingdom?

Coming down in May for the 20th anniversary. We only have three days in the parks. 27th we are planning on Magic Kingdom. Is it worth leaving the park to eat at Kona? We've been there before and absolutely love the place, but with only three days I wanted to see what others suggested. What would be a good alternative? Liberty tree? Skipper canteen?

I would think it depends on your goals for the trip. Do you like to try new places? If so, you've already done Kona and Skipper's Canteen is great. Or you could go for one of the TS restaurants at GF or CR. As far as leaving the park, have you been to WDW before and do you plan on going again? There is no way to see and do everything at WDW, it's just impossible so I'm thinking a 20th anniversary is special and leaving the park and relaxing for dinner at one of the resorts would be great.

I like loves to dive's suggestion of trying a table service at one of the resorts near the MK... the table service restaurants at the Polynesian are supposed to be really good.

I'll be contrarian and say I disagree with leaving MK, but I'd rather be in MK more than anywhere else, and if I had only one day, I'd be there from RD to Wishes.

If you really want to eat at Kona, it wouldn't take too much time away from the park.

Kona is at the Polynesian. I would do it. Very easy to get to and if you are planning a long day/ evening, a nice break.

With such a short trip I would just stay in the MK. We like LTT for lunch and either BOG or Tony's for dinner.

I vote stay in MK and go to Skippers. I really liked it and thought the food was way above average compared to typical MK fare. Borderline foody. Plus if it's of interest you can have beer/wine there now, if you'd like to have a nice beverage to celebrate your anniversary.

I like doing resort meals during lunch breaks from parks. There's a really good chance in may that it'll be hot and humid enough you'll want to get out of the sun so why not doing a lunch elsewhere on your way back to your resort for a snooze or swim. you are also in a really good spot to get to another resort. you can speed it up by grabbing an uber/lyft or taxi back to your resort after the meal.

With only three days in the parks, I personally would not go to Kona. It seems they are always late seating-we waited 40 minutes past our ADR last time-and between that, eating time, traveling back and forth, and getting through the lines you would be missing out on probably 3 hours of park time. LTT or Skipper are good alternatives and the food at both are comparable quality to the food at Kona, IMO.

Just to follow up...not our 20th but we're coming as part of The Dis 20th. We have been to WDW before and will definitely be coming back again. This is kind of an unexpected trip I surprised my wife with after I heard about the outstanding rates. Right now I'm leaning towards keeping my reservation at Kona because my wife loves the deserts there.

May I just say, you are a freaking awesome husband. :worship:

What about breakfast at Kona before the park, and dinner at Skipper Canteen, so you could enjoy both restaurants without having to leave the park?

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the food inside the MK so Kona is always a stop for us. It's a nice break from the crowds as well. I think if you've been before and are going to go again, I would definitely go to Kona. it's not hard to go to Kona and then ride back over to the MK to complete your day! If you can try and schedule it for when they open - we've never had an issue being seated on time when we've done that!

If your goal is to see as much in MK as you can that day, then, no I wouldn't leave. IMHO, Kona is in need of a massive refurb and the food isn't that great. Yes, Skipper Canteen would probably be a good alternative if you want TS.

I like to leave the parks for a break, and I would definitely go with your Kona plan. I love the monorail and the Poly, and it sounds like a fun thing to do. What a nice spouse!
