Is it worth it?

I have been pricing stuff out in prep for our trip next year. Is it worth it to spend an extra $770 to stay in a Deluxe resort vs. a Value resort. DSs will be 4 and 2 next year. I really want to stay at AKL and DH wants to stay at a value resort. Or should we meet in the middle and stay at a moderate. I drool over AKL.

A moderate may be a good compromise! I've always stayed at values, this year we're MOVING ON UP to a moderate (POR!). Woo-hoo, living the high life now. :rotfl:

We really wanted to stay at WL, but this way we'll have something to look forward to for next time.

Is that an extra $770 for a week's stay? I hate to tell you but YES!
I've never stayed in a Value and am horribly spoiled princess: BUT a Deluxe resort will make your trip a VACATION. AKL is my all-time favorite. Your kids will be in awe and even LEARN on your trip ;)
You and your husband will enjoy the added amenities of a stay at a Deluxe. The resort has incredible theming and a very unique atmosphere. The restaurants are great, as is the lounge. The pool area and bar are fabulous. The activities for children are first-rate. I say, "Splurge!"
Good luck.

I agree, it is worth it!

AKL is incredible, an experience you will never forget, probably. It is very unique. I wondered this same question on our first WDW trip years ago, thinking we were always going to be in the parks. Then when I studied the hotels the deluxes just looked so fabulous, and I splurged. I have never looked back!

I was in the same boat as you. If I am going to do Disney I am really going to do Disney ::MickeyMo Our compromise was to split our stay. We are staying at the ASMo for 3 nights @ $207 and 3 nights at AKL (Pool View) for $639. For a total of $846.00 for the week (value season) I think that it is a good choice and one I am sure we will not regret. Without all of the info on this board I never would have thought about splitting the stay but it sounds really easy.

Good luck!

as we have always stayed in a Deluxe but luck! We stayed at the AKL (and LOVED IT!) right after it opened and right after 9/11. Paid $119 (in 2001) for a savannah view room!!! In 2003 we were lucky enough to stay at the Dolphin under their Teacher rate of $129. We are thinking about a trip next Fall but don't know if our luck will hold for a deluxe.

I know that some don't care about the room but we like having a nice room to come back to each day.

If possible, I would spluge and try the AKL!!!!

If you have the money it's worth it. We changed from a moderate to deluxe at the last minute last year. $500 more, but definitely worth every penny. We stayed on the monorail, which is definitely a plus with little ones. Good luck with your decision.

If you can, staying at a Deluxe is SO worth the extra money over a Value or a Moderate.

In my opinion, a Moderate is worth the extra month over a Value to.

It totally depends on your budget and personal preferences. We've loved every resort we've stayed at and have never had a bad trip. And yes, we just stayed at Pop Century after three deluxe stays and two Disney cruises. We loved Pop and if it means we can go to our favorite vacation place more often, then a Value it'll be, no problem whatsoever! :wizard:

I haven't stayed at a value resort so I can't comment on them. In my opinion, AKL is worth every penny! On the other hand, my uncle just stayed at POP after having stayed at several moderate and deluxe resorts and he loved it. He vowed never to stay anywhere else! I also think young children love the theming of the value resorts.

YES!!!!

I have only stayed at a value & a moderate once & all the rest of the trips have been in deluxes.

I hated both value & moderate because the rooms were small & you only have that tiny window to the outside world. That window which is on the walkway so eveyone can see in your room.

I love light & I love to open the curtains at the Poly. Yes I know people can see in my room (if I am on the first floor) but I can go outside to sit in my 'sun room'.
