Is it worth it?

I haven't been to Universal in five years, since right before HP World opened. I'm a big fan. I'm planning a solo trip to Disney and I'm trying to decide if adding a day in Universal would be worth it. Since I'll be alone, would I even need the Universal equivalent of a FP, or would single rider lines get me on most things? Adding a day adds another $300 to my vacation...

Assuming that is a term for Universal ("going to the dark side"?), either May 26 or May 29--beginning or end of vacation.

I don't want to overdo it--I know I'm only spending three days in Disney, but I plan to be at the parks all of those days. So I'm not sure if the complication of getting to and from Universal would be worth it for 1 day.

darkside...................universal
motherland..............disney

if you use the mears shuttle, it is very convenient for a day trip.
if you only have 2 in your group for going to the darkside, the shuttle is cheaper than renting a car.

if you have 3-4 in your group, a taxi would work out better.
if you catch a taxi in dtd, it could cost mybe $30 a way.

check out www.universalorando.com to see what is in the park and if you feel it would be worth it for a day trip.

If you're a big HP fan its definitely worth it. Don't get the express pass, the single rider line does help out alot. Are you staying at a Disney hotel?

Yes, I plan to stay at Pop Century. I was thinking of taking the Dreams Unlimited transportation--it seems, if not quite the cheapest, the most stress-free way...

The last two years we stayed at Pop and took both the shuttle and a taxi. A taxi will cost you roughly $40 each way. The shuttle is $20 R/T so that would def be your cheapest option. I'm not familiar with the Dreams Unlimited transportation..

DU has a great reputation and you can't go wrong using them.

be sure to set up the shuttle the day before and pick the earliest time of the day.
you want to be at the parks before they open.

the line to the entrance only builds during the morning so the sooner you arrive, the more upfront you wlll be to get into the park.

Any chance you see yourself back in the area before too long? If it was me, I'd skip just doing one day and plan a trip to Universal for a long weekend in the future instead. One day- I've done it once, and didn't really think it was worth it (I had my own car and it was just me and my teen DD that trip). We really wanted more time.

Thanks to everyone. I ended up booking Disney from May 26-30, and decided to save Universal for another time. I know I'll be back to Orlando before too long!

have fun at the motherland!
