I really want to stay at the Poly for 10 days in June. However I can book POR for about 3000 cheaper. Is the Poly worth $3000 more? We have been to Disney several times, but never in the summer. This will also be our first trip with our one year old. We will be doing all 4 parks, pool time, Downtown Disney, and a few character meals. My husband hates the idea of having to drag a stroller on the buses, even though I know Epcot and DHS will require the bus transportation. I am really confused as what to do. I have never stayed at either resort, so PLEASE HELP!

I can't say if it is worth $3000 but the poly is awesome. You will love the access to the monorail. I would venture to say that you will b spending a lot of time at MK and it's a great place to stay for that reason alone. I have stayed at POR and it's nice but you will b spending a lot of time on the bus system..

only you can answer that question.

you really need to make a list of each resorts Pros and cons then decide if the pros at Poly are worth $3000 more.

If you stay at POR, you will need to take a bus to all of the parks. If you stay at the Poly, it will be possible to avoid buses for everything but DtD and AK. Is that alone worth $3000? Not in my opinion. You can rent a car for so much less than that and you can totally avoid the buses.

However, the Poly is beautiful and you would find it difficult to beat it for location. I love it but I would never spring for 10 days there. Is a split stay a possibility for you? Maybe a week at POR and 3 days at the Poly?

I love the Poly and it's beautiful and has a great location and I am a resort snob but I can't see spending $3000 more on it. Is the only reason really the stroller issue? You can get an umbrella stroller like a Maclaren Triumph that closes easily and it's small and compact on the bus. It's really not that big of a deal. Think of what you could do with that $3000 extra!

The only con to the Poly is the price. Love everything about it. And I really like Port Orleans. Split stay is a idea, not sure if my husband will want to do that. I guess I have a lot to think about. Thanks for your input.

Just my 2 cents....if you can comfortably swing the $3000 it would be worth it. The resort is excellent and you have one of the best character breakfast/dinners right in house. Location to the monorail is awesome...so no need for the bus to MK and a quick walk to the transportation center will get you a monorail to Epcot. I'm with your husband on the stroller issue and the bus. We walk, boat, or monorail everywhere we can. With park hoppers we actually walk through Epcot, from BWV, do a few things then jump on the monorail to MK. You could do the opposite...jump on a monorail to Epcot, enjoy a few rides and make your way to the boat at the international gateway and go to DHS...or walk. So technically the only bus would be AK. What ever you choose I'm sure it will be great...enjoy your trip!

THIS!! There is no way on this earth that I would spend an extra $3000 to avoid putting a stroller on a bus. That's just crazy talk. Get an umbrella stroller and take the bus. Or rent a car for a couple hundred for the week.

What would you be doing with the $3000 if you didn't spend it on the Poly?

is it worth it? that depends upon you.

are you really doing all 4 parks, & dd? then you will need to bus (even from Polyn) for AK, DD and Studios. these buses are shared with other MK resorts.

you can take the boat to studios but that means entering Epcot and walking across Epcot to the boat. It also means you need a park hopper.

a one year old definitely needs more downtime than when you and your husband went alone.

can you cut back - if you only did MK and Epcot - then Polyn would be great.

that say if your favorite parks are Epcot and Studio - then one of the Epcot resorts might work better - BC is nice. the bc and polyn both have a character breakfast onsite.

now if you are going to go to all 4 parks & DD. remember DD is the worst except for SSR, OKW and PO. they have buses and boats to DD.

might see about OKW - it is cheaper than Polyn and you can have a little more room than in the POR. Plus it is at least a studio so it has a kitchennet.

there are several washers and dryers around the pools for your use for free - just remember to bring your detergent and fabric softener. Now the washers and dryers are free only to guest staying at OKW.

the one bedroom villa and up have a completely kitchen. This includes a washer/dryer in the villa. alot more room but it also costs more.

you can rent a reservation from a DVC member - that will help kept costs down.

now there is BLT that you can also rent from a member - but it is expensive. You can walk to the MK (it and CR are the only resorts you can do this).

but if your only choices are the Polyn or POR - then might go with POR it is more centrally located.

Here's my two cents having stayed at WL, Pop, Poly, BC, POFQ and most recently all stars. The Poly is a favorite for fireworks on the beach, O'hana and Kona Cafe. This makes for crowds of people that aren't guests of the resort. It's loud, busy and chaotic. There are not covered walkways from the buildings to the lobby making for an interesting journey when it rains. The cast members were not exceptional (as they were at all stars). I would save the money and stay somewhere else! POFQ is my favorite!

I agree!!!!! no way in heck its worth $3000! The best solution is to rent a car. :thumbsup2 Waaaay cheaper. but of course its up to you. Weigh out the pros and cons. Think about how much time you will actually spend at the resort.

The Poly is my DW favorite resort, my second right behind the WL. If money is an issue (when isn't it?) than no it is not worth an extra $3000.00. But if I were spending 10 nights at WDW I would do a split stay finishing up at the Poly. Obviously it would take part of a day to make the switch but many people do it. Another thing to consider is; how much time will you be spending at the resort? We do spend time at the resorts; taking a break during the afternoon to sweim at the pool. We don't spend all day in the parks and use the resort only for a place to sleep.

Up until our last trip we've always had 2 strollers and 3 kids and I've never even had the slightest issue with the busses. We drive to FL so we have our own vehicle, but we always use the busses to get around. The OP should have no problems with two adults, 1 baby, and 1 stroller on the busses.

That said, the Polynesian is lovely. :cloud9:
We have not stayed there yet because I have not been willing to pay the extra money, but I am also considering a split stay to have the experience but keep the cost down. (We have done a split stay before on a 12 day trip and it was very easy.)

My family loves POR but we are staying at the Poly this time. We did NOT love anything at all about ASMu so different strokes for different folk. That said the only reason we are staying at the POLY is because we got a awesome deal that made the POLY only 1000.00 more than POR and I dislike the bus system so much (bus system fine, my mom cannot stand well on the buses but is not disabled, 3 children 2 in stroller, no line just fastest is first on the bus) we would have added a rental car so that cost was taken into consideration of the upgrade and the rest was a treat LOL I would never ever pay rack rate on a room. any room. But again that is just me.

To me, it would be worth it, if I had the extra money. During those times when I do have the money, I would not regret spending it on a deluxe resort. There are enough perks to make it worthwhile. Some things to consider:

  1. The POLY rooms are bigger than POR. The extra space feels luxurious.
  2. Many of the POLY rooms have a balcony or patio. While it is not guaranteed, there is a good chance that you would receive one, especially if you request it. I enjoy a balcony.
  3. You can see the Electric Water Pageant and the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the POLY beach.
  4. The monorail does make travelling a little easier. The Magic Kingdom and Epcot are both accessible by monorail from the POLY.

Have you thought about Animal Kingdom Lodge or Wilderness Lodge? Both of those deluxe resorts are nice and a little less expensive than POLY. Also, I am a BIG fan of the split stay. I would do five nights POR and then five nights POLY in a heartbeat!
