Is it worth it to get a AP, for my trip?

Im going to Disneyworld for 10 days and 9 nights at the Poly in mid August 2017. The park tickets with park hopper will cost me about $500 per adult. The Disney Platuim Plus AP costs about $800. My questions is , is it worth it to buy the one AP , then when a friend of mine goes in November have him use it one day on his trip to activate it, in hopes that I will qualify for AP discounts down the road for my room or dinning. Or do I take my chances and wait and hope discounts for Visa holders and general public will be just as good. Thank you for your time and help.

If I read your post correctly...You can't share an AP. You must give ID in at guest services to activate and your first park entrance starts the ball rolling With your finger print.
Many APs also have blackouts too, so keep that in mind as well.

You cannot "share" an AP, so having your friend use your AP for one day in November of this year would attach the AP to him. That's a seriously bad idea when all you hope to gain is the same dining discounts and room discounts that you would get in Aug. 2017 after buying an AP then. Keep in mind that AP discounts are not set in stone. They can change at any time. Buying an AP solely for the purpose of accessing a few discounts is not smart. Buy one if you think you will spend less on park admission with an AP than you would with separate park tickets.

As pp said, definitely cannot share AP. You bought it, it is for you alone to use--your ID, your fingerprint, etc. I think APs with blackout dates are the FL resident ones and possibly the DVC ones. The regular Platinum and Platinum plus APs don't have blackout dates. As far as what discounts are available, I've found that general public discounts are historically announced very close to the AP discount announcement. Also, the discount isn't that different, maybe an additional 5% sometimes. The only reason I got an AP this year is that I will get at least 3 weeks use out of it--this December, in May for Flower/Garden, and again, but a week earlier next December. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother to get one.

Let me add that you don't have to decide to buy it until you find out what the discounts are. You can always check and book an AP rate without actually having one and then purchase it for the start of that trip. The AP does give additional perks beyond the room discount that may be of interest to you.

Look at this page to see what past discounts have been (not that they tell the future):

Depending on how many people you will be traveling and your dining style with you might want to look into Tables in Wonderland (TIW). You get 20% off most table service including alcohol and it's good for up to 10 people dining together. It costs $150 to buy so you have to first spend $750 to start reaping the benefit.

As noted, you can't let someone else use your AP.

Do you really need a Platinum Plus? Are you planning to go to water parks on a few days? If not, just get the Platinum.

Unless you're a DVC member or a Florida resident, you won't have access to APs with blackout dates.

in hopes that I will qualify for AP discounts down the road for my room or dinning.

As Mama Lo stated, you have access to AP discounts on rooms even before you buy the AP. Besides the fact that you *can't* share the AP, you don't *have to* do that.
