Is it worth it for our family to go to MGM?

My DDs are 8, 5 and 2. It seems like the only things for us to do all together are a few shows. I'm debating about saving the extra $35pp on the park hopping option and just getting a base ticket. Will I be wasting a day if we go to MGM? It just doesn't seem like there is much for us to do. I"ve never been there so someone please correct me if I'm wrong. :confused3

Well ... you've got Little Mermaid, Playhouse Disney, Beauty & the Beast, Muppet-Vision 3-D, Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground, and the Great Movie Ride. Plus the Stars in Motorcars Parade, and the character greetings and Animation tour. I think you could easily spend 4-5 hours there and have a grand time with kids that age!

:earsboy:

I think it's worth it just to see those shows. Also my big thing, is we hop from either MGM, AK or MK to Epcot at night.

I have to admit that MGM is definitely my least favorite park, but I always visit it anyway because I feel like I'd be missing out on something if I didn't!

I would think that your 5 and 2 year olds would really enjoy Playhouse Disney. I know my 4 yo loves it! She also loves the Ariel show and I think the parade there is really cute! It's the only place where you'll see the Playhouse Disney characters - Stanley, Rolie Polie Olie. So, if your kids are into those characters, I definitely think it is worth it.

My 4 yo also gets really excited for the Indiana Jones stunt show too.

Hopefully somebody else will have more insight for you!

We will be at MGM in 5 days!! WOOHOO!!!! :Pinkbounc :cool1:  :cheer2:

How long will you be in WDW?

You say you've never been there, so I'd say you should absolutely try it! There is a lot to do for your family, and you and dh can child swap if you're into the thrill rides. (Dh and I swapped kids while we rode RnR and ToT last month! :) ) I can't imagine skipping any park...

:)

Thanks, you convinced me. I don't know why I'm contemplating changing everything a month before we go! I'm second-guessing where we're staying, what we're paying, where we're going, where we're eating. Maybe I'm just having a little pre-vacation anxiety!!!! It's true - how could we go for the first time (and not returning anytime soon) and not at least go see it? I need to calm down and stick with my plans!

I would at least go once and go to Fantistmic--they are things for kids too and it is kindof a laid back day--we usually only go for one day during our trips. I love the shops at MGM.

MGM's great, I think it's worth it, but you mentioned that you were concerned with things that your family could do together. Some of the shows are great, the restaurants are fun, and the shopping is fun too (they have a cool villains store that I don't think they have at other parks). I have my favorite and least favorite parks, but I definitely need to visit all of them, otherwise as another poster pointed out, I'd feel like I was missing out on something!

I think you would have a lot of fun at MGM. The only things that I can think of that might be problematic for your whole family to enjoy are: Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Sounds Dangerous, Star Tours, and Tower of Terror. I think you could all enjoy Backlot Tour, Beauty and the Beast, Fantasmic!, The Great Movie Ride, Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Indiana Jones Stunt, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Magic of Disney Animation, MGM Shopping, Muppet Vision 3D, MGM Restaurants, One Man's Dream, and the MGM Parade. That's a lot of stuff!

I'm glad you have decided to give it a try.

LOOOVE MGM

Our favorite park by far - our kids are 7, 5, 3, and 1.

We are planning two days there this trip because we loved it so much.
It's a great "day two" park - when your feet hurt from walking all over Magic Kingdom - because so many of the attractions are shows. But, the shows are SOOOO cool. Some of them are interactive, some have scents and wind and 3D effects. WAY cool! And they're all in small-ish theaters, so you really feel like you're there. :)

It is also my least favorite park. We have a 2 and 3 year old, and didn't plan on going there last week on our week-long stay because we just don't think there's enough there for us to do. I don't ride roller coasters, DH does but he would rather do things with the kids so rarely rides them unless he has a Fastpass or there's no line.

But on the last day of our package, the line at the bus stop was so long for MK that we saw an empty MGM bus and decided to go there instead. We only had until 3 p.m. because our flight out was at 6 p.m. We ended up having a nice day there. We started at park opening with some character pictures with the kids, and then we saw the Muppet Movie. Then DH rode Star Tours - no line. Got pictures with Buzz, Woody and Jessie at Al's Toy Barn - no line again. Then went and got Fastpasses for the Little Mermaid show (loved it!). Grabbed a snack and it was time for Little Mermaid. Afterward we went over to Playhouse Disney and lucked out into getting into the show at the end of the line without much wait - in the back but kids didn't care. Sci-Fi for lunch - very different (it's like sitting in a drive in movie) and good food. We went to the 1:15 p.m. show of Beauty and the Beast (got there 20 minutes before show time) and liked it alot. Kids really liked it. Then we walked around, kids got pictures with Jojo and Goliath and we shared some milkshakes. A little shopping, and we left.

If we didn't have the park hopper pass I'm not sure we would have gone, because in the past we've never done more than three hours there. But last time we didn't see Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast and I'm glad we did. If you add in the stunt show, TOT and RRR, you could fill up a day.

Thanks for the list of things we can all do together. That helps planning my day. I wasn't sure about Indiana Jones. I'd really like for all of us to stick together. I don't know...it kind of freaks me out to have us separate!!!!!
