is it worth converting to MYW?

My DH and I were in WDW in June, and have one day and 3 extras left on our hopper. We're going again from 3/5-3/12 at All Star Movies, and got a deal of $79/night. Since we wanted only another 4 day hopper pass each, we bought them in the Disney Store before the new tickets came out since it was cheaper. Now I'm hearing about this dining option for $35/pp per day. How does the conversion work, and is it worth it? Would I lose my $79/night rate?

In order to do the dining addon, you would need to book a package. The room rate for the package would be the rack rate (or a AAA discount if you qualify) and you would need to purchase MYW tickets as a part of the package. You would be unable to "trade in" the value of your current Park Hoppers on the price of a package. I think that dollar-wise, you would fare much better to keep that great room rate and just use the PHPs that you already have.

The extras (plusses) have no value when the trade up value of a park hopper is computed.

The exchange rate when trading up a park hopper to MYW is for the most part very bad. In addition you must equip the MYW pass with all attributes (non-expiration, hopping, plusses) that the hopper has.

While an old hopper with a day left might buy the fifth, sixth, and seventh days of a MYW 7 day ticket, it won't even buy the first day of an MYW ticket for yet another future Disney trip. Better to save the hopper for a time when there is no alternative to avoiding the need for just one extra day, provided you don't mind its cluttering up your dresser drawer.
