Is It Unbearably Hot in August at Disney?

We are thinking of going Aug. 15-20th. My husband thinks it will be way too hot. I am a teacher, and our budget is rather tight, which is why I was thinking of going during the value season. Thoughts, experiences? Thanks!!:)

Yes, it is VERY hot in August. We have a child in school and cannot take her out more than a day or two for vacation so we usually go in the last two weeks of August and again at Christmas. August is hot, Spring and Christmas break is packed with crowds.

Any summer month is hot. We've gone in July and August, and I don't really notice a real difference between the two. Hot, humid, and hot.

Is the end of June or even July any cooler than August?
No, not really :(. I have been there for July 4th a couple of times and it was just as hot. Sadly, the best times to go to WDW weather-wise is May and October.

Mega hot, though one benefit of August is that the sun is setting earlier than in June and July, so the temps cool down a bit quicker as evening approaches. We were there last August 1 - 8th and did fine. I only felt like I was going to melt a few times. However, I live in the southeast and am acclimated to the heat. I think my brother (who lives in a cooler climate) thought he was going to die. One day one, after drinking a milkshake, he could barely make it back to the hotel.

If you're pretty cool (pun intended) with the heat, you'll do fine. I would return at this time of year. If you're really sensitive too it, you'll be fairly miserable.

The summer is the best time for me. Any ideas about how to deal with the heat AND convinve my husband to go? My seven year old DD SO wants to go and so do I. This will be our first trip!:lovestruc

Oh no, I am sensitive to the heat/mostly the humidity. We went on our honeymoon to Bermuda in July and I could barely move it was so hot and humid there!:sad1:

Yes, it's wicked hot and wicked humid.
Stay away from Labor Day (more crowds)
If you want to go- here are my tips/advice

Skip table service breakfast/character meals for breakfast.
Do your touring in the morning- and be done by 11:30-12
THEN go to a nice air conditioned lunch, followed by nap, and pool.
Or water park.
Dont do any big park touring during the middle of the day

freeze bottled water the night before
use gel packs to wrap around your neck and cool you off
Or at least a wash cloth in a zip lock (feel free to wet and freeze the night before)

bring 2 pairs of sneakers (your feet will sweat, or get wet in the quickie rain showers and you will want dry shoes)
pack mole skin
LOTS of thick socks, you may wear as many as 3-4 pairs a day if you like dry socks.

Yes, it's unbearable. I have gone in June and July and will avoid summer months if at all possible. I would rather deal with heavy crowds than the heat and humidity. Honestly, it was so hot both times we visited during those months that it was tough to enjoy the trip. I even got sick from the heat one day. I can't say never again because when our kids are school-aged we might not have much of a choice......

It's hot. but managable. I've gone the first wek of Sept. the past 2 years and am going that time again this year.

FL is hot and humid in the summer..but I didn't find it umbearable. First of all the parks weren't that crowded so you didn't have to wait long for rides and there weren't mobs of people which help with dealing with the heat.

Disney has lots of air conditioning which also helps. I find great attractions to rest and cool off on are Hall of Presidents, It's a Small World, Universe of Energy, the great movie ride - the rides are indoors & air conditioned - usually not long lines and they last long so you can just relax an cool off.

We stay in a villa and order cases of water from garden grocer. We freeze a bunch of bottles the night before and then carry them in the parks. They help keep us cool and as they melt we have cold water to drink.

Afternoon pool breaks also help. You can get those spray fans if you want. One year I found these items on amazon - they look like bandanas - you soak them in ice cold water the night before - there are these little beads in them that absorb and hold the cold moisure and then you tie them around your neck and they help keep you cool.

Unless you have a REAL aversion to heat or anyone in your family cannot tolerate it, you will be fine. You just go at a slower pace if need be - take a few more breaks to cool off and enjoy yourself. If you have a small child, the child care centers are GREAT places to cool off and rest. We used the one in MK a few times. In addition to child care facilities they have a room with a TV and chairs and you can sit in there with your child and cool off and give yourself and your child a break from the heat.

I go when I go because it's less expensive and less crowded and my son is only in Pre-K so we can go anytime of year. When he goes to school I figure we'll be taking August Disney trips...and you know what, I don't mind at all because I think the hardest part about the heat is if you push yourself to do and see everything. If you take your time and pace yourself, you'll have a great time and be fine.

Have fun.

Really depends on where you are from and how your family takes the heat. July and August are very hot!

It's very hot, but we get going early and do something cool for the afternoon - take a nap, swim at the hotel, or shop downtown in the a/c. If you plan on taking breaks and stay well hydrated it's not too bad. We always have a more relaxing vacation due to the heat than we do when we go to Disney at other times of the year.

We usually go every August. I also work in a school and cannot take time off during the school year nor do I want to pull my kids out for an extended period of time.

We live in Maine and do not find it unbearable in August. Actually the later in August, the less the lines. Also, there is often free dining then for stays on-site.

We plan our days, go early, take a break mid-day, then return in the evening. We bought mini misters to bring. We even had people in line asking us to mist them. Bring/buy lots of water. We start with 1 cold water and 1 frozen water each day. We brought flavor packets. We refilled our water at CS and used the flavor to make the tap water taste better. It also rains a lot during August. Be prepared with lots of rain ponchos.

If you take your time and have a plan then you will be fine during August. In fact, this year we went during Feb vacation and it was miserably cold. We will miss not being there this summer.

:lmao:YES!

Actually I LOVE august Fla, It is hot, it is sticky, it is wet and it is DISNEY, so I LOVE it!!!! :rotfl2:

Its definitly hot but we still have a great time every year anyways!!! If you are sesitive to heat definitley pick a different time, if your not I say go for it but not commando style, ease into it with lots of water breaks and cool downs in the ac!

TBH, I was absolutely miserable when we went in August. I could barely make it through the day (I was, however, pregnant and in the first trimester). Still, I would never choose July or August unless I absolutely had to.

I hate the heat. I honestly would rather not go than go in the summer.

Well, we're very lazy (if I wasn't too lazy to do it, I'd change my name to Mickey'slaziestfan. It describes me perfectly). August is fine for us.

Our August plan goes something like this:

Eat a granola bar or something
Rope drop at the park
Stay until the latest character breakfast
Spend the rest of the day at the pool.
Maybe go to DTD (which DS says is his "favorite park") or a waterpark, or out to dinner in the evening. Or not that might be too much work.

The heat doesn't really bother us at all, and in fact when we went in October it wasn't the same because it was too cold for me to swim
