Is it true the Figment ride is closing?

there have been internet rumors going on for years.... as of now any closure will be due to technical issues or temporary maintenance

No it's not true.

Any ride could close at anytime, but no figment is currently not set to close. Someone heard a rumor and passed it to you. They'll next tell you the Indiana Jones show is closing

All just rumors at this point. There is a lot of work planned for Epcot, and much of it is in Future World. Much has been announced, with a hint at more to come. Figment has not been part of any of those announcements though.

We went to WDW for years, and I had no idea there was an actual ride there until I read it here two summers ago. I thought the building just had an exhibit.

Based on the comments I read on these boards, I didn’t expect much, and I rode it for the first time in October 2016.

I actually like it. It’s no headliner, but it’s not awful like the Stitch attraction they just closed. Or the Nemo show.

I highly doubt Figment will be going anywhere. They would not invest in him being the mascot for both the Food and Wine Festival and the Festival of the Arts just to get rid of him immediately after. Would be smarter for them to let him forget he existed if they were going to do that

Its just a rumor that its closing, but it will close someday, but until Disney announces it you don't know when,it could be in 10 years or in 2 years,I think 2 years is more likely,Epcot will be getting a pretty significant remodel and I think Future World will look pretty different in 4 years.Ellen already closed with the Guardians coaster already in construction, the next pavilion that will likely get replaced has to be the imagination pavilion.

Or, Wonders of Life.

I hope not, I love Figment. He seems to have a cult following.

Indeed, Figment (and Dream Finder too for that matter) does indeed have a cult following. The rumor that has been circulating is that Journey into Imagination will close, and be replaced by an Inside Out attraction, and that the Pixar Short Film Festival will be replaced by a new movie featuring Figment.

My honest hope is that they do not go with this plan. I would love to see an Inside Out attraction, but more than that, I would love to see Inside Out take over the old Wonders of Life pavilion. It would be great to have that open and gobbling up people again. In conjunction, I would hope that Journey Into Imagination could get a complete overhaul, and be returned to it's former greatness, or at least some semblance of it.

I, by the way, do not believe that it is logistically impossible to recreate the original ride. Computerized control systems are a LOT more capable now than they were back in the 80's when the ride was first created. My guess is that it wouldn't be too hard to overcome the timing / synchronization problems of the original ride with a computerized control system.
