Is it too soon to start planning October 2008 - yes 2008? We had planned to go this coming October, but finances will not allow it. From what I've seen, October should be a good weather and crowd time to visit, so we will try for next year on our school's fall break.

So, I need help. Since I have so much time, when should I actually book reservations? I'm willing to search and get the best deal on hotel, tickets and airfare. Any suggestions? We will stay on-site if possible, me, my wife, dd age 7 (by then) and ds age 5 (again, by then). Could splurge some, but can't go first class in every category.

Too soon??? Never!! I already have most of the planning done for our next trip and it isn't until 2009

If it were me I would book now and then watch for discounts and deals to come out later to apply to your reservations.

I just booked our Sept 28 - Oct 3, 2008 trip a few days ago. A pretty good rate came up on the Disney website for the Grand Floridian that week and I booked it. I figure if better rates come out between now and then I can always apply them. We have always wanted to stay at the Grand Floridian and we are so excited! It will be our first Deluxe stay.
And we haven't even taken our 07 trip yet! LOL So, no, it's never too soon!

So you can apply discounts that become available later?? I don't know how this works. Do I log-in to the disney website and make a regular hotel/tickets reservation, then what - just keep checking back for lower rates? Is there a particular place to check for deals?? I'm a realtive newbie and somewhat confused...:upsidedow

Thanks for the replies though!

I just happened to look in to the price for our Oct 2008 visit at WL and found the room we wanted- a deluxe, we have 6 in our family- were already booked!! I'd look into it ASAP.

Hi - I'm sure there are several ways to find the discounts but the Disney website wasn't one of them for us. They don't advertise too many discounts on their website. I subscribe to mousesavers.com newsletter and that's how my family found out about the free dining plan that was offered from end of August to the third week in Sept. They tell you the code and you call back to disney reservation line and tell them you found a cheaper rate and tell them code and that's it. My sister had her reservations for a year when the free dining plan came out and that's all it took for her too.:wizard:

Heck no it's not too soon. My DF and I are getting married in WDW this November and I am already starting to think about where we should stay for our October 2008 trip. She gets aggitated sometimes when I bring it up, but it's just so exciting. My dilemna now is do we stay at the AKL or stay at CBR which should have their main pool completely refurbished by then. :cool1:

Nope we tried to book FW earlier this month for Oct/Nov and couldn't get anything after 20 Nov 2008. The advance planning now is just crazy especially for FW in the Fall/Winter time frames. :scared1:

I just booked my October 2008 at the CBR last week. :woohoo: Never to early. So far I just have it booked and the hotel reservations made. I still have to plan ADRs, what park what day and numerous others. I feel like I haven't even made a dent in planning yet!! Just when I think I am getting a handle on it, I read something else on this board that I will need to do. Jump in and happy planning.

It's never to soon. Make your reservations, and make changes if you need to later.:thumbsup2

Nope! Never too early as others have said. We're planning on going towards the end of Oct. 2008 and are still in our "Planning" phase now (aka still talking about it). I can't wait until we are able to actually get the ball rolling and book it. Unfortunately, we need to wait right now b/c I'm in the process of finding another job before my company closes and sells our building :headache: .

We went October 2006 and booked in August 2006 when a deal came out from Disney Visa (before the general public got it) for the Value resorts for 5 nights/6 days, park tickets included. It was about $389/adult and $174 to add our then DS4 (I believe those were the prices). We added on two extra days and used our Disney Reward Points from the Disney Visa Card to pay for the extra days that the deal didn't cover. The same deal came out again this past August, with a slightly higher price tag.

For my trip this October, the planning started back in December. After suring up all the details we could sit back and enjoy the anticipation of the trip. So I don't think it is too soon at all.

We booked where we are staying a couple of months later after researching each place (we are renting an off site home for 9 people) Booking early insured we got the home we wanted, as the most "popular" ones go first.

The airplane we booked in May after watching prices and being confident that the prices would not fall any lower. We saved about $75 round trip booking so early (we checked as it got closer to see if we did the right thing or not - we did!) Prices even rose for our rental car (and the savings code is no longer offered), that we booked closely after we got our flight.

...Is it too soon? Never! If you see any codes (if you are staying on site) after booking, you can always cancel your first reservation and rebook.

I'm a newbie here but we are also traveling in Oct. 2008. I like to plan it and book it early - get it out of the way! That relieves a lot of stress for me not to have to worry about not getting the hotel we want!

I am always in planning mode. I am just waiting on some extra money to book next year's december trip for 5 people, taking my moms on her first disney trip. I like to book my vacation asap so I can make payments on it because there is no way I am running the credit card bill up that high- ha!! I will book my package including dining and then purchase airfare later- once southwest releases those dates I want. It is never too early to plan- that is half the fun.
