Is It Too Loud? Peter Pan, Mr. Toad etc....

I was thinking of our last Disneyland visit on Mother's Day. I noticed my 3yr granddaughter seemed uncomfortable with how Loud the Music was on many rides. So, is it just me or are certain rides really too loud? Peter Pan is my favorite ride, but I did notice it seemed the volume was more intense and also it seemed darker (wish the island was better lighted) . Maybe I'll get her ear plugs for our Christmas trip.

Winnie the Pooh is the worst, it is painfully loud. There are also "noise cancelling" headphones that might be an option.

Yes it's loud. Even just walking around outside there can get overwhelming (one dusk-time in Tomorrowland stands out in my mind).

Earplugs are good.

Thanks, its good to know I'm not the only person to notices this. Has any CM cast member ever told anyone the volume can be turned down? And are there less lights now in the Peter Pan ride? I was so sure you could see a lot more detail of the Island. Sorry, I just love this ride and if the sound could be turned down and more areas of the ride illuminated I think it would be perfect. Hum.....maybe I'm expecting too much.

I honestly think my perception of loud changed when we took our first trip with our kids. I have NEVER thought that the soundtracks on rides were too loud (just immersive) until I rode Peter Pan with my twins for the first time. (with them crying the whole time) Both me and my husband got off and said "Have the rides always been that loud?" We just never noticed how loud it was until we were worried about our little ones ears and/or them possibly getting scared.

I find many of the rides to be quite loud. I take a package of foam earplugs and carry them in my bag or kid's pockets or whatever. DS 15 and I particularly wear them on Space, Screamin', and Buzz. For some reason, those rides seem VERY loud to me. We find that if we have earplugs we don't get as overwhelmed and tired when we're at DLR. We've used them the last few times we've gone and they make a big difference. :thumbsup2

I agree--I felt the same way when my kids were little and we took them to Disneyland the first time. It is almost like a "empathy pain" that you get when you see your kids in distress--like being in a too loud situation they can't escape.

I think it has always been that loud, but it bothered me much more thru the sensitive ears of my kids.

My DD4 has sensory issues so I bring a pack of kid's size earplugs. This seems to help, especially for the fireworks which she enjoys seeing, just not hearing!!:goodvibes

Are there any current or past CM Cast Members that might know how the volume level is determined for rides? Maybe CMs also wear ear plugs.
OK, simple fix - ear plugs! I am going to buy a pack of ear plugs so anyone in our group can wear them if they want.

I always carry earplugs but rarely use them...mostly during Captain EO. I guarantee I'm going to be noticing the loudness this next trip, though, now that it's been pointed out. :flower3:

Regarding the detail on Peter Pan Flight, I read on another message board where people were complaining about less details there...but then it sounded like it turned out, people were just visiting in the daytime, so their eyes weren't adjusted to the dark! If they went at night, the details reappeared. So that may be an issue here.

Pinocchio (in the "fair" section) is also incredibly loud.

Though I may just be getting old, LOL ;-)

..and the rides are probably loud because people just yammer away while riding so they have to play the audio to drown them out, so they talk louder and off we go. Really..I don't mind some oohs and look over theres, but to just chat while on a ride is distracting and rude. I'd rather have the audio loud than hear other people on the ride.

Snow White always seems loud to me. My daughter is sensitive and always covers her ears. She's 9 years old and has done it since she was old enough to ride. The noise used to scare her and it took until last year to get her to enjoy the "indoor" storybook rides!

I copied this from the DisneyWorld Thread:

I am a current Peter Pan's Flight CM at WDW.

The volume is determined by matainance which makes their rounds adjusting attractions queue, ride and post show music based on guest and cast (From guests) feedback.
Thank you so much for this information.

We were at Disneyland for Christmas and noticed all rides had volume at a very acceptable level. Who ever sets the volume control for the rides, Thank You! On this trip we all enjoyed the soundtracks for each ride. :)
