We are just starting to plan and we are new to the renting thing. It looks great for our family, but we need to travel in May of this year and from what I have been reading people are reserving a year in advance! I am wondering if we are out of luck to try to rent points this May. :confused3

Thanks!

If you are looking at Memorial Day week, it might be too late. But you never know if you don't try. You may be limited to what is available. BCV might be totally booked by now. Same with other resorts like AKV.

We are ok for any week in May maybe that will help. We need a 1 bedroom for sure though. What resorts would be the best to try for?

Thanks!
Tracy

If you can do any week, you should be successful. ALso, 1 bedroom units are usually the easiest to book. OKW and SSR are the largest resorts, so those will likely have the most selection of rooms available. But if you can go any week, you may find a room at the other resorts also. Post your request on the Rent/Trade board ASAP. Give your resort choices in order of preference. Good luck!

If you haven't already, please be sure and educate yourself on how a DVC reservation is very different from a regular hotel reservation, and the basics of “renting points”, as it is often referred to.

See: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1669863

Then, you should read the "sticky" posts at the top of the DVC Rent/Trade board which explain how to post on the Rent/Trade board.

I just called last week and made a ressie for the third week in May (1 BR at SSR). Availability for that period was pretty open. I agree that Memorial Day weekend may be difficult.

Another good informational thread is this one started by diznyfanatic: DVC Point Rental Primer

As Mike said above, it is very important to learn the differences between a DVC reservation and a traditional hotel reservation. The concerns about fraud in these rentals, IMHO, are overblown -- although there has been one person who defrauded renters.

The real risk in a DVC rental (again IMHO) is that your plans may change. DVC ressies can't just be canceled or rescheduled like a regular hotel reservation, so it's really critical that you and the owner you rent from have a very clear understanding about what happens in the event of a change in plans.
