Is it time for a new slow cooker/crockpot?

My nine-year old Crockpot has been around the block a few times. It still heats up well enough. However, the glass lid does not fit tight around the pot. I do put foil around the small gaps. However, I think think liquids may evaporate out.

It was state-of-the-art when I got it...it supposively switches to warm after a pre-determined time...either four, six, eight or ten hours. However, I still think it cooks somewhat on warm. As a result, the food is overcooked if I leave it in the slow cooker all day.

I only use the slow cooker on my days off (which defeats the purpose of the slow cooker for busy days). Now, I can put a meal in the cooker in mid-morning, keep in on a low setting for six hours and have it ready by suppertime.

Sure, my slow cooker/Crockpot still works. But is there a slow cooker that will allow me to start my meal very early in the morning (5:30 am) and still have something edible when I get home from work (5:30 pm)?

I've had my crockpot for 18 years and use it quite a bit and just cannot bring myself to justification to buy a new one. I want a new one, and have the funds for one, but I just can't part with my old one that works completely fine. Mine is an old style that has two settings - low and high.

Since you have issues with your lid, there's a reason right there for you to get a new one!

The newer ones seem to cook way faster than the older ones. No matter the setting@!

I'm still using the Crockpot I received as a wedding shower gift over 30 years ago. It has a low and a high setting. High cooks the stew in 5-6 hours. Low cooks the stew in 10-12 hours.

Mine is much older than 9 years old, and still works quite well. :thumbsup2
I do think that you've gotten your money's worth out of yours after nine years, and that if the cover isn't fitting properly it is indeed time to replace it for that reason alone.

Mine only has HIGH and LOW and I've never had problems of things overcooking, so I can't really help you out there.

I recently updated the appliances in my kitchen to stainless steel and want to get new stainless countertop appliances to match---I know, I know--I'm nuts.

Anyhow, my current crockpot has a hairline crack (hardly noticeable) in the bottom so that's how I'm justifying this new purchase.:thumbsup2. I think my current crockpot is 6-7 yrs old but it gets a workout at my house.

OP, I think you should splurge and get a new crockpot with a lid that fits! Like you, I need one that 1) has a timer 2) has a warm setting for holding dinner.
