Is it really that hot in August?

Oh, I know it probably will be, but FREE DINING! Is it really that bad? I have to say we don't do well with really hot sunlight. Or is it more the humidity? We went in Oct. once and it was mid and upper 80s and we thought some parts of the day were bad.

July and August are the worst in Florida. The sun is VERY intense, and the humidity will leave you dripping in sweat. We live in SC and it's the same here; we would never go to Orlando in the summer ... free dining or no free dining. Sorry to sound so bleak; just being realistic.

We went in August once, never again. It was in the 90's every day and the humidity was unbearable. It would rain every afternoon and the humidity would get worse. Even at night it would still be in the 70's with humidity. Some people love this kind of heat, but it really took the fun out of our vacation. Now we go in the spring or fall.

I live in Florida and it will be HOT!! I would def recomend taking afternoon breaks during the hottest part of the day. I would go back and swim etc. The crowds should be pretty manageable. Make sure you have all your ADR's beforehand because you will notice an increase in crowds at table service restaurants.

Yes! Disney World is that brutal during the summer months. We went in July and it was incredibly hot. We're southerners so we're use to the heat and the humity that the summer brings. What we were not use to is spending the whole day out in it. The heat zaps your energy and you find yourself dragging along sweating from the humidity. If you went during August, prepare yourself for extreme heat and make sure you take breaks so you can rest and gain some of your energy back.

We used to go every summer in late August when I was still in high school. I went to school up north where we didn't start school until after labor day. After I started college that ended since move-in was about two weeks into August.

It's hot- but no comparison to Williamsburg's humidity in August/early September!

There's just so much to do indoors at Disney that we didn't find it that much of a problem- and we're Northerners!!! :rotfl:

I'd go again in late August in a heartbeat. This year we're going in mid-Sept. :)

Yes. It is very hot and humid.

If you decide to go in August, remember to drink plenty of water. You might want to spend a day at one of the water parks. It helps to spend the hottest part of the day taking a break at your resort to go swimming.

We went through two outfits every day and ended up doing laundry twice as often as we thought we'd have to do it. Unless you're able to pack a lot of clothes, schedule in some time to do laundry.

I've never been to WDW in August but I've been there in June and September and it was hot, hot, hot.

My DH worked in a steel mill after college - right by the blast furnaces - and even he couldn't handle the heat (and humidity!).

Just make sure to take lots of breaks and drink lots of water. Oh, and have fun!!!

I live close to the world and trust me, it gets HOT. Floridians don't usually go outside much in July, August unless they have to or they are absolutely crazy. We try to stay inside until evening because it is so hot.

We went the end of July 2005. It was so hot that I constantly had sweat dripping down my face. We were told while we were there that July of 2005 was the hottest July on record. We'll never go back in the summer again, we'll deal with the crowds on school breaks rather than deal with that heat again! We're from upstate New York so it was definitely more than we are used to.

Have to agree with everyone else, it is absolutely BRUTAL!! We are going at the end of Sept/Oct. and even then it will be scorching hot!

We went in Sept. (cooler than August, but not by much) and it was literally over 90 degrees @ 12:00 midnight. I would not go in July or August for any reason...maybe if it was free.

I hate dripping sweat. BTW I am from Colorado, so it is very dry here. The humidity and heat were truly unbearable.

Well, I will chime in that it isn't that bad. I went the end of July last year and I agree it was hot. However, Michigan was also hot. I didn't feel like it was that much different. We are going back this July and are planning on taking an afternoon break. We did carry around (sometimes) a fan/water mister. They sell them at Disney but they are much more expensive. Go and have fun!

Guess I will be the lone voice to encourage you to make the trip if you can!

We've gone several times in August. Twice in October, once in April. April was the best - temp-wise. October still insanely hot - but by then, the NY weather has changed, so there was major contrast and I felt the heat more in October than in August.

Mid-to-late August - few lines, non-crazy park crowds. Resort pools VERY crowded in the afternoons. Nice evenings. FDP may change the crowd factor...:confused3

You'll need lots of frozen water bottles, hats and sunscreen all around, and good touring plans to know where the AC is. We alternate between outdoor attractions and indoor shows and ice cream/shopping breaks in between.First time we went, I posted here and got lots of support from August WDW travellers. It is definitely do-able.

Must stay hydrated and know your family's stamina level. No commando touring in the heat. The rushing,+ heat will make everyone tired and cranky sooner.

I wouldn't pass it up if I could swing it just because it's August.:cool1: Preferable any day to overwhelming crowds, at least for me.

Born and raised in CP! :wave2:

Go Shen! :rotfl:

I still say that August isn't that bad- there's so much to do indoors!! I wouldn't let it hold me back but that's just IMO :)

and we WILL be there again this August. We are also from MI and we had some high temps and humidity too. I'm with TAKitty...I didn't find much difference. We start early and take afternoon breaks, drink plenty of water, find air conditioning when needed and have a blast. I think it must be like childbirth....we forget how bad it was within days! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:
Just listen to your body and take breaks as needed. We found very low crowds so it was not hard to take the breaks and still get to see and do pretty much everything we wanted. Have a great trip!

I have lived in South Florida for 8 years and WDW is way to hot and humid from June to the end of October. There are not enough water bottles in the world to make it fun to walk around in that weather, it is brutally uncomfortable. The nights and early mornings are just as uncomfortable as the days, I would highly recommend going another time if at all possible.

We went for free dining last year in August. It was hot, hot, hot everyday...BUT we got to the parks at opening and rode everything we wanted to by early afternoon. We went back to the room every afternoon for naps and pool time (my kids were 2 & 3). We used to fan misters and drank lots of water. We usually were back in the parks about 6, or after dinner.

I thought it was fine and am planning to do it again this year.

I'm a native Floridian :sunny: and althought the heat is seriously intense, the worst thing about Florida in August are the thunderstorms. It will rain, and I don't mean drizzle but downpour, every day at 4pm. And even the rain I don't really mind... it's the lightning. Personally, I'm terrified of lightning because a friend of mine was struck and killed running in from football practice. So breaks in the afternoon are a MUST, if not for your general well-being (rest, rehydrate, and recharge) then for your safety.

But yeah, come on down! Just take precautions and know you'll have to take some down time. You'll have a blast I'm sure.
