Is it really difficult to get ressies at FW?

Hi, I'm new to this board.

My dad bought an RV and is nearing retirement. He would like to take the grandkids to FW in his RV. However, he told me he called the campground (it's the Fort Wilderness WDW campground) and they told him they were booked for 2 years?!?! Does that sound right?

It probably depends on the time of the year, but that sounds a bit excessive.

I just put in a week in August 2010 and found that they have availability in all categories for that week. If he can be flexible with the dates, maybe he can get down there in FW sooner.

It can be difficult to get reservations depending on the time of year that you want to go (ex. Christmas, Easter/spring break, July 4, halloween) but it is not booked for 2 years. I was able to get reservations for Spring Break (granted, I had a later spring break than most so that made it easier) about 2 weeks before I went. Have your dad sign on to www.disneyworld.com and make his reservations online or call 407-WDISNEY and try to get reservations there. Don't call the campground directly, they cannot make reservations. Hope this helps!

I use the Disney website often for pricing vacations. However, I noticed that I could not book an RV site using that website. I could book cabins. How can you plug in reservation date requests for an RV site at FW?

I thought 2 years sounded ridiculous, BTW. He's stubborn (thank goodness he doesn't read these boards and would have no idea who I am!) and I'm thinking he only wanted one specific week or something like that.

Hmmm....I checked that site and found Premium sites available for June! I don't know who he called but I'll definitely let him know (maybe he doesn't want to take the 4 young kids for another 2 years! I'm starting to wonder if that's his reason for telling me about the campsite having a 2 year wait, LOL. )
