Is It Really Busy Mlk Week?

It lists on the WDW Touring Plans that MLK week is really not that busy. It shows a 5 out of 10. Is this true? Has anyone been there during this week? Any info will be so much appreciated. I've read in some reviews that it is really busy, but what does that mean. Does it mean x-mas, easter, springbreak crowds?

I was there this past January I came the Wednesday of MLK week and it was empty all over. I'm planning on going the same time in 2006.

I agree; it's a little busy over the weekend but by Tuesday it's empty again!

Have to agree. . . we were there Jan 13 to 19, 2005 (MLK was Mon the 17th) and didn't find it crowded at all. The weather was pretty cold this past Jan, though.

This has become an annual family trip for us (except we won't be going in '06). We have never had a problem at any of the parks. We normally arrive late Thursday night before the MLK weekend and head home sometime on Monday (MLK day).

We are currently planning our trip for Mid-January so we're looking right in that zone too. I do know there is 1 week in there that DS has ELA testing so we cannot go that week. Our school considers family trips an excused absence w/ the exception of the state testing weeks.

We're also planning on going MLK week and also looked at that touring plan. I saw the 5's but also looked at the rest of the year...nothing under a 4 (and those were rare!)??? So, I took that to mean January was a good time of year to go! We're there!

We are going that weekend also. Looking at the UG crowd predictions, Saturday 1/14 is rated a 7 while the rest of the week are 5's. I wonder what is going on Saturday.

Our trip is planned for Jan 13th - 21st. It looks like it should be relatively uncrowded during that time. I also noticed the larger crowds predicted for Sat. Jan 14th. Don't know why. It doesn't look as if there's anything going on that weekend. Although I did see somewhere that there's a collegiate cheer competition going on for three days or so during our visit.

We'll be at POR. Anyone know if these cheer competition participants are generally housed in one resort over another?? I've been out of college for a while now, so I'm officially an old fogey who likes to get her beauty sleep rather than party all night long.

If the 14th is the Saturday of MLK weekend, thats why its getting the higher number. January is a great time to go, but I do think MLK weekend gets pretty crowded. Now, Im used to January crowds...or lack of them I should say. So when we were there once over MLK, we were disappointed with the crowds. Especially at MK!! Its not as bad as summer and christmas.. but there are better weeks to go in January if you looking for no crowds.

We are going January 6th through the 16th and I am hoping its not that busy on the 14th because that is my birthday. I hope the crowds dont take away from the fun and excitement my sister is planning for me (I hope).

Just a heads up for MLK weekend. I do not know how many youth-age participants will be involved, but our church youth group is attending a Faith in 3D Conference at WDW that weekend. I think the majority of the groups are staying at CSR. However, the organizers did just open up another 1000 slots last week as the first wave sold out almost immediately. Don't know if all will be at the same resort or not. A large part of the day is occupied with the conference, but most afternoons/evenings are given to time in the parks. The conference is Friday-Monday.

Does this conference include 1000 before and a new 1000 added? Are they children or adults, and how do you think this will affect the parks?

I do not know how many slots were originally made available. But 1000 more were made available last week. As far as I know the group will be made up of teens (Probably ages 12 - 18) and adult chaperones. As far as attendance in the parks, the kids are being given park hopper passes, so they will spread out among the parks during the limited free time they have. You probably won't even notice them unless you are at the resort.

each of the groups (Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Episcopal Church, and Presbyterian Church USA) was allotted 500 spots, but as the PP noted, Passport doubled that number for everyone. I believe that Faith in 3D will have about 3000 participants. As part of the package, each participant gets a 3-day park hopper, so some of the people will likely be in the parks on Friday or Monday. We are planning to be at Epcot on Sunday, I think.

I don't know what, if any, impact Faith in 3D will have on the parks. On Saturday morning, the students are participating in Y.E.S. (Youth Education Series) classes, and have park time after that from 1:00-7:00pm. There's a worship service that evening, around 8:00 at the hotel. On Sunday, there is a worship service (at Coronado Springs) beginning at 8:00am and then the group is scheduled for a faith-based tour of the World Showcase from 11:00-2:00pm, followed by time in the parks after that.

I would imagine that the biggest impact might be at the resort--during meal times?

I'm glad to see that the conference won't be too much of an impact at the parks for MLK weekend.

I'm wondering if anyone else has been there at this time. You know, the more you here from other people who have been there at that time, the more you are comfortable about your plans. That is why I love DIS, it helps everyone out who needs it!
