Is it possible to stay dry on Kali?

So sad to get the email today that Dinosaur is closed for our November date. But, we are determined not to let it get us down so we got a FP for Kali instead. I have not been on this since I was a child and we avoid it because getting soaked doesn't sound like fun, especially in fall weather! But I'm willing to give it a try to give my kids a great day at AK. :)

We have a bunch of dollar store ponchos that we have never had to use... I know the quality can't be great. Will this be sufficient to keep us mostly dry or do we need something more substantial?

Any other tips? Thanks!

Yes. Disney (not dollar store) ponchos tucked around, hood up, look down. Plastic cleaner bag on seat.
Not a drop even though we were the ones dumped on badly.

I've ridden Kali a number of times. Really, only a couple of people will get REALLY soaked... whoever is at the bottom of the boat when it stops spinning and hits the bottom of the drop. I've ridden multiple times and stayed mostly dry, and then at least twice, I've been in THOSE seats, and got the soaked to the core.

It depends where you sit on the drop. If you are going down the drop facing backwards, you will get soaked. If you are facing forward on the drop, you will get wet. There is pretty much no way to go on Kali River Rapids without getting some sort of water on you.

I've only once been in the seats that gets the wave come over them at the bottom of the hill. The other lost count amounts of time, some water splashed on me but I wouldn't call it wet. now I have been on the ride when it stopped and been rained on with no way to try to stay dry. now that's wet but the handleful of fastpasses to never wait in a line for the next 2 weeks was worth it.

Yes. Dollar store poncho and dollar store flip flops put on before you board. Carry a water resistant string bag and put your shoes in it. Keep it under the poncho. When you get off, offer the ponchos to others or toss them. Then put your shoes back on and go.

If you end up in one of the two seats that gets drenched, you will probably get wet even with ponchos on.

Definitely a lot of luck involved! We rode in the summer- no-one in the raft wore a poncho, all prepared to be drenched... and NO-ONE was! However we balanced, even at the bottom of the drop, it was only a splash into the raft, not a wave. We were all shocked, as we'd all be joking (good way to get friendly with strangers!) about who was going to get it! There were lots of conversations about "do we do it again?" and we all decided that as we'd been so lucky, it was time to walk away!! ;)

Footwear normally gets wet, so I suggest waterproof sandals, crocks, flip flops, etc. Bring a facecloth from your resort to dry off quickly.

We rode it this summer multiple times and were quite disappointed that the splash was far, far less than what it was in the past. Not sure why that was. Like others said, typically only the seats facing backwards get really wet, the others stay mostly dry. I don't know it has anything to do with weight, as it does random luck.

I know most don't agree with me, but my opinion also is that it's a water ride...the point is to get wet. So it shouldn't be that big of a deal if you do. I think it's a bit like saying "I want to go on ToT, but hope I don't drop too far."

This about footwear is true! I always wear sandals. If you are not wearing them all day, at least do it for Kali.

And Wear the HOOD of the poncho. It is not just about your head/hair. Otherwise you'll be all tucked in, but water will run from the back of you neck down to your back!!

Wear fast dry clothes.

And have fun!!

If all that doesn't work, you'll have an excuse to get a new beach towel!!

I've ridden KRR numerous times and have always managed to keep myself covered enough to stay (mostly) dry even when I've been in the "seat of doom". I always use a cheap rain poncho and like others have mentioned, I make sure to tuck it under my legs so that water can't splash up in it. If you're tall, I would take another rain poncho to put across your lap or to sit on and wrap around your legs as the rain poncho you're wearing might be too short to cover the back/bottom of your shorts when sitting down. I also make sure to hold the hood up over my head when we go down the hill otherwise the water will go straight down your back if you're in the "seat of doom" during the drop. I wear athletic shoes to the parks so I also take a plastic disposable shopping bag (or a small plastic trash bag from your hotel room will also work) and put it over my feet/shoes for the ride. Sometimes a little water splashes on my shoes and socks but nothing that doesn't dry quickly.

I usually get laughed at by other people on our raft (including my own family members) for basically wrapping myself in plastic for the ride, but when we get off the ride and I'm dry and many other people are at least partially soaked, I always hear somebody say, "Next time we go on this ride I'm wearing a poncho." I don't really care that other people laugh at me, I *HATE* walking around in soaking wet clothing. I go on the ride because in general, I enjoy it. I just don't want to get soaked. I don't mind the edge of my sleeve getting wet or the bottom edge of my shorts getting wet (both have happened), but I don't like to feel like I've gone swimming while fully dressed.
