We are planning on booking rooms at AKL and WL for our stay at WDW that is coming up soon. Because there are 5 of us, is it possible to basically lie and claim our 3 year old (turned 3 this month) is under 3..do they ask for ID to confirm dates of birth?? I would really like to stay in these resorts since I've read such positive reviews for them!!!

I can honestly say that no, they do not ask for ID. I can also say that if I were you I sure would say they were under three (whats the difference in a month anyway) However, I am sure my opinion is going to be very against the grain because unfortunately many ppl here are uptight and concerned about cheating disney, why? I cannot tell you. :confused3

So before we both have the chance to be flamed I will give you my opinion, go, tell them she/he is two (just don't teach him/her to say 3 until you get back) have a great time and don't worry about other ppls moral opinions! :flower:

Well that's an easy one- they are all perfect and never do anything wrong to anybody or anything! :rotfl:

ETA- I must be feeling fiesty tonight!

I'm not going to tell you what you are doing is right or wrong (not your mom) ;) but I will tell you a funny story.

We were at AKL and there was an adorable little girl. I got to chatting with the mother and asked how old the little one was. Her speech seemed very advanced. Her mom told me she was 3. That little girl whipped her head around and said "No mommy, I'm 2!" Mom said "No, you are 3." The response..... "Mommy! You told me that I'm 2 when I'm at Disney World." :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
That poor mother turned so red. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Moral: If you decide to lie about the age, be mindful of potentially embarassing situations. The little ones have no filter when it comes to what they say. :flower:

They don't ask for ID to confirm the child's age, but I believe they ask the birth date of the child when you make your original room reservation. Keep in mind that the information stays in their computer system when you make reservations in the future. I have heard stories of CM's asking children how old they are, and if you get a vacation package your child won't have a ticket on the room key (more savings for you, but also more potential situations where you may have to lie).

Oh how funny!!

Indeed, and that's really the point. Who cares about Disney? Disney can, should and does take care of itself. It doesn't need any "help" from do-gooders here on the DIS! :jester:

The issue most folks on these forums have with situations like this is the issue of personal integrity -- the belief that people should value their own personal integrity enough to simply refuse the temptation to lie. There are all these truly controversial subjects out there that reasonable people do disagree about: reproductive rights, sexual preference, war and peace, etc. -- one thing that most everyone does agree about is that deception is wrong.

Agree. ::yes::

I chuckle at the number of people whose first post is asking for advice on how to lie or to get away with lying.

Princess Fiona-I'm sure it is possible to "basically lie". Have a good trip.

I know someone who took their first and only trip to WDW recently. They stayed at WL with five in the room. The youngest of their three kids was 9. She felt bad about lying, but wanted to stay someplace nice for their only trip. The problem that they encountered was EMH. Since only four of them had keys only four of them could stay for the EMH. Just something to think about.

I'm sure it is possible, but I would be careful at the parks when trying to get it, because kids 3 and over need park tickets, they might ask for their birth certificate there for proof if they don't believe it.

I saw another thread, I think in Theme Parks, talking about this same issue and people being dishonest and getting caught.

I wouldn't think it should be a huge problem at the resort, because who wants to pay for a "deluxe" room at a deluxe resorts when they don't need to... I have read threads here where people wanted to do the same at an All Stars to save money.

If you're not doing a package with dining, you may luck out.

When went to WDW in 2002, my older DD was turning 11 3 days after we arrived. So we still paid for a childs meal. Well, after her birthday I told her that she's still 10 at the restaurants. We were at Chef MIckeys and I had to give the age of my DDs , So I said 7 &10. When the younger pipes up and says
"No Mom, Valerie is 11 now- remember?" Well. I tried to shake it off and nod no,
but she was right. I should not have lied. :rolleyes2

Anyway, I would still say he's 2 turning 3 next month.

:flower3: hello, we did this when my son had turned 3 on nov 2 and we went for thanksgiving, we never said he was 2 or 3 no one ever asked, i would not really worry about it, it is not like he is 14 and you are trying to say he is 8. he just turned 3, do not feel guilty. but if you feel like the guilt will keep you looking over your shoulder, tell the truth. :wave2:

Just adding my own experience. We stay off property so I only have experience with park tickets. When we went in Oct 2000 my DS had turned 3 in Aug, we purchased park tickets for him, but at the front gate the CM simply opened up the stroller entrance for him and never asked for a ticket.

We are going back in Aug and my DD just turned 3 in July and I have purchased a No exp ticket for her, so I will have it ready if asked, but hoping for another 'don't ask don't tell experience'. (I still have a full 4 day pass for DS).
Enjoy your trip!! :earsboy:

There are so many ways around that problem. They don't scan the room keys, they just verify the dates on them. I bet they don't even look at names. Next time they should get four wrist bands at one location where they are passing them out, then give the extra person the room key and go to another location. I am sure I will get flamed for this.

Don't you have to have an infant (under 1 year) to stay in a resort that has an occupancy of 4?

We just got back from POR and CSR and they did not count our baby who is 1. I posted about this on another thread and was told that under 3 doesn't count in the room total. This will work well for us, because we will have more choices next year while he is still two.

There are rooms at the AKL that sleep five. Not sure about the WL.

By the way, the architecture for the AKL and WL is nearly identical. The theming is different.

I had a slightly different problem in May when I went down. My DD was 2, but turning 3 in June. She is tall for her age to boot. I carried a copy of her birth certificate just in case we were asked. It was a good thing I did. When I checked into the hotel the CM asked if we needed tickets. I said no, that I had one with some days on it for me and DD was not yet 3. CM expressed amazement about DD's age, clearly not believing me, although she was not nasty about it. I decided I had better nip things in the bud right there and so took out the copy and showed it to her, not in a nasty way either, sort of yeah, I know, I can't believe it either. CM was relieved and reassured and I was happy. Next trip we'll never be able to get anyone to believe she is under 3, so I don't have to worry about it. Only you can decide how to handle your son's age and how to deal with any possible questions from CMs. Whatever you decide to do, have a wonderful time.
