I just booked a quick trip down to Disney for me and my youngest son. It was spur of the moment. My delema is I just started a diet and Im not sure how to handel (control) my self on vacation at Disney. We are only going for 3 full days. I have reservations at Whispering Canyon, Cape May breakfast, 50 prime time and Crystal palace.
The diet Im doing is all clean whole foods, im going to a clinic and its working great! But I know Disney food is not exactly clean whole food!
Any suggestions would be great!
I have looked at the menus and I think the resturaunts for Dinner will have some better choices. UGG Im just worried Im going to loose it while on vacation!

I am not sure what the definition of whole clean food is, but I would think that you could do okay at the sit downs where you can order a protein prepared in a health conscious way with steamed veggies-- they are pretty good with accommodating special dietary requests. Not so sure about the CS choices though.

I would pick places like the Sunshine Seasons at Epcot, or hop to the Pepper Market and maybe those would make things easier. I think it is pretty easy to find salads throughout the parks so maybe those would work? Check out the menus http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/disneydining.cfm and see what look like it will have acceptable options.

Since you are going to a clinic, have you asked them what they suggest? They may have some traveling exceptions that will help you stay on plan.

Worst case, it is only 3 days. As long as you don't go wild with meals of French Fries and Mickey bars and just eat sensibly you shouldn't do too much damage in that time and can get right back on the program when you get home.

Plus, remember how much walking you do on a Disney vacation. During our weeklong honeymoon in October, we ate and ate and ate some more and I thought for sure I would gain 10 pounds! However, my DH and I didn't gain a single pound! I think we sweat it off with all of the walking and swimming we did during our vacation.

I have gone to WDW for a whole week while trying to lose weight (successfully! 60 pounds so far!) and did not gain any weight at all. All the walking really does make a difference. I ate everything I wanted, I was just a bit more mindful of the portions than I might have been in the past. I ate until I felt satisfied, not stuffed, and I did not go out of my way to eat steamed veggies or skip dessert. However, I am also not the type of person who eats a bunch of fried junk food either. (So how did I get so overweight in the first place???? ;) )

Anyway, good luck! :goodvibes

Maybe my thinking is a little backward, but I think sometimes it can be easier to eat healthy at buffets, rather than other table/counter service, as long as you don't go crazy!

There are lots of salad, steamed veggies, and fruit available. And you can get little tastes of the less healthy options without totally blowing it. Sometimes I'm satisfied with just a bite or two of dessert, but if I paid $5+ for it, I'm going to eat the whole darn thing. :rotfl: For some reason, at a buffet, it's easier for me to leave food on my plate.

I think you could do it. I'd stick with bottles water and you could add crystal light or other flavorings for beverages. Most restaurants sit down have salads or fish and you can ask that it be broiled or cooked however you like. Just use your senses ask for stuff thats lean no cream sauces no desserts get fresh berries instead etc.

I never thought so till last week. We just got back IF u have an ADR and get on A BUS u probably won't make it on time. So don't eat and wait till next meal and voila same thing except 2 meals missed. U might starve but keep hydrated. The bus system was out of whack on a massive scale imo last week. Bus system alone could help u lose 12 pounds down there in a week's time. Carry snacks for kiddies as they won't understand buses. I don't either for that matter.:confused3:confused3:confused3

I did it a couple of years ago, and I was there for 9 days. I had a yogurt parfait for breakfast every day. At lunch and dinner, I watched my portion sizes, didn't order anything fried, and skipped desserts. I had a snack morning and afternoon, usually fruit. I think I lost five pounds.

I would worry more about portions then anything. I didn't really overeat at all last year when we went. Of course I did share meals with my young son but he didn't eat that much! I think my worst meal was Ohana but that's because I was stuffed and still made myself eat some bread pudding because it was just THAT good!

With all the walking and tending to my young son, I didn't gain a pound. In fact my dh asked me if I lost weight with all that walking!

Good luck and remember that if you get off track, all you have to do is jump right back on!

My suggestion would be to plan your menu ahead of time. You'll know roughly where you're eating each day. I would look at the menus and plan out your meals - even if you leave yourself the flexibility to change it later, it will give you a framework. I would say plan a "treat" once a day, too, so that you will not feel deprived! It can be a "healthy treat", but one you will enjoy! That's my 2 cents!

Since you'll be *aware* of what you'll be eating, if something at a buffet looks too good to pass up, take enough for a bite or two. I think you'll be too busy for snacking (my downfall) and you'll be walking and burning so many calories! I lost 5 pounds on my last trip and didn't prohibit anything. I guess I should just live in the World until I reach my goal weight...ah to dream!

You may also want to check out The Wave at the Contemporary resort. I think they are using more whole foods in their cooking. It is a sit down, so you'd have to reschedule if you decide to do this one.

I think you're much more likely to be able to eat moderately well - at least at the restaurants.

If you were doing quick service - I'd say that would be very hard!

I wouldnt want to diet when there! There is too much yummy stuff that NEEDS to be eaten! And I will gladly take the job! :rotfl2:
