I bid on a picture that I thought was of my grandmother (she was an artist's model). My sister told me that the picture I bid on was NOT her, though it was the same artist. I was going to surprise my mom with the picture, which is not the original but is a print from 1918. Meanwhile, my bid was accepted. I asked the seller if I could retract the bid and explained the situation. She told me that ebay does not allow that and she had already been charged a 20% seller's fee.
I understand this isn't the seller's fault and I will pay the $75 for the picture if it's the ethical thing to do, but I was wondering if I could offer the seller her 20% and not buy the picture? Thanks for any input.
