and if you have done it HOW???

My usual routine is to come home from work and exercise for a 1/2 hour. It usually makes the evening routine betwenn getting the kids' homework done, cooking dinner and getting the house in order a little hairy.

This school year I want to wake up in the morning to exercise (5:15) to make my life a lot easier. The problem is I am NOT a morning person. I'll wake up and then make excuses for myself knowing clearly that it would make my life easier and the kids' lives as well.

Did you ever "change" to become a morning person? How did you do it? Any suggestions would be great!!

Suzy-

I was never a "morning person". Really I'm still not one. But I get out of bed every morning during the work week at 5:30 (may need to be earlier once DD starts back to school) to run. I have become so committed to healthier living that I just make myself get up. At first it was hard, and still some mornings I think oh I could sleep for another half hour. But then my good girl brain says-another half hour of dozing will not make you feel better and laying here in bed is not going to make you thinner. So get your fat butt up and MOVE!! I find that I am much more productive if I exercise in the morning. And it revs up the metabolism for the day.

I could not exercise at night. It is almost 6 by the time I get home, then with dinner, homework, reading etc. DD is not in bed until 8pm. Then I am ready to macrame my behind to the couch and veg for a while. Oh wait, I usually have to do some laundry:laundy: or dishes or something too.

Good luck with the morning exercise-it does take some getting used to, but once you get on track it really makes for a great day!

i try to become one as well during the school year, it's sooo much nicer to have my workout DONE and have the morning for chores, errands, etc. commiting to a schedule and having a workout partner (either reality or virtual) that you have to keep accountable with can help. i'm dragging my feet too -- should we start a thread and keep each other accountable??

This would be awesome!!! See I can commit to you better than I can commit to myself! Then I know that I can do it!

ok -- i was thinking i could start with 2 morning this week -- early mornings -- how about you???

i'll start a thread and see if anyone else wants to join us??

I became a "morning person" but I agree it isn't easy sometimes. For me unless I'm outside walking with my son in his stroller the only opportunity I have to guarantee a workout is to get up early. Plus I love the fact I know I'm done for the day and if I can squeeze in some extra time then it is just gravy to the workout I already completed. Like the other poster in the beginning I was happy if I got up early twice a week to workout. I think once you start and realize how much easier it makes your life and how good you feel you'll naturally start adding days to your week. My other thing was that I always made Wednesday either a light workout morning so that I could sleep in a little or I took the day off. Then once you get into a routine you can either keep it as a light day or make it a full workout day.

Good luck - you can do it!
