Out of NYC. We have been on other NCL ships. They are much more informal than DCL. My parents don't like having a set schedule or dressing up for dining, and my son did not want to be gone longer than a week. So this cruise was a perfect fit!

We did a back to back cruise on the Jade in 2009 and actually felt that they were a lot more formal than DCL. Yes, it is true that on DCL you have fixed dining times and a rotation, but we much preferred this to having to stand in line for your dinner. On the first evening, the line for the bigger of the two dining rooms went half way down the deck and that was just to pick up a pager. 3 out of the 7 nights we opted to pay for the speciality restaurants just to avoid this.

As to dress code on the Jade, I would never have dared to turn up for dinner wearing a t shirt and Crocs, which I have done on DCL many a time. I think, if I had, I would have been asked to go and get changed. They might call their version of formal night "Dress Up Or Not", but even though there was nobody ultra-formal (evening gowns or tux), everybody was dressed up on the night and it was a more formal affair than it is on DCL. On DCL there are always people that come cruise casual to formal and semi-formal night and that is fine, too.

We cruised NCL (Pearl) to Alaska last May -- our 1st NCL experience and we loved it!! DH *HATES* to have to dress up when he's away from work, and especially on vacation so the cruise was perfect for us!! We've booked it to Alaska again May 2012. :thumbsup2 I want to do a Bermuda or Caribbean NCL cruise too so please let me know about your experience. :)

I am so lost in pop culture. I am a nerd and tend to spend my days with a bunch of engineers. So please forgive me.

Sounds exciting! :cutie: I hear they are a rowdy bunch -- kind of like Accountants (which was my profession in a former life)!!

Yeah we are a fun bunch. I guess that is why DH and I go on so many vacatipns. We have to get away and return to normal.

One thing for sure is there is usually lots of drinking at conferences

I am so surprised, would have thought 350 for sure.

DD is a freshman at University going for a degree in Accounting. Our state has a 4 year program and you get you MS, BS, and MBA, then sit for the CPA. Now don't worry all those letters are probably in the wrong order, this mom did not go to college but is making her kids go!!!

She is way ahead of her degree also, and will finish in 4!!!

Since I don't cruise, I can't contribute to those conversations, so I thought I would add some of mine, if anyone is looking for reviews or pics, let me know...

Trying to get to our inauguration spot in Washington D.C.

Thank you, I love NYC, but hubby really feels uneasy when we are there. Small city boy.

I have some really great memories of NYC, DD did get accepted into Fordham and Manhattan College, but in the end wanted to be close to home. I did offer to get an appt. and live part-time in the city with her, but she got a free ride at our local university, and in the end her loans even with dorming are going to be less than one year anywhere else.

My son is just a sophmore in H.S. so I only have a one year lap-over. But actually his H.S. is more than her college bill!!:scared1::eek: Insane, right?

I really want to add this restaurant. DH and I plan on sharing one or two meals then sneak away from the kids for a meal here. I still am debating whether to do lunch or dinner:

So type away, review and pictures, with descriptions would be extremely helpful!!!!!
