Is it ok to pack a whole carry-on full of food?

I know the rules for liquids and normally we pack a bag full of goodies and check the bag because we usually fly southwest. This time we're flying US Air so we're trying to save on fees and use a carry-on or our goodies. Is it ok to have a carry-on filled with nothing but snacks? Pop tarts, pringles, granola bars and stuff like that?

Sure I do that all time. Each person is allowed the carry on plus a personal item. The don't care what is in the carry ons (as long as it not a prohibited item)

Agree. We do it all the time as well.

We've done it. Wanted to have "safe" food, especially for DS, until we can get over to Public and Whole Foods.

Im a pilot and former flight attendant and my wife and I usually carry food when we travel, just not usually ALL food. That being said, I used to carry 3-4 days worth of meals (Uncle Ben's rice packets are AWESOME for this) that dont need a fridge and are easily cookable via a microwave or lukewarm water. I would carry this all in my "personal item" with my big rollaboard for clothes.

So longstory short, by all means you can do all food. Just make sure there arent any gels or liquids.

Yes...we have four people flying so my husband carries the laptop and camera, I carry the activity bag, DD carries the snacks, and DS carries his air mattress. :goodvibes We packed pop-tarts, peanut bars, granola bars, doughnuts etc. It was no problem at all! :)

Be careful about trying to carryon Pop Tarts. Depends on the agent, but could get taken because of the filling. On another board, the Starring Rolls cupcakes got taken because of the icing. However, before we saw that post, we got our cupcakes thru TSA.

I have never had any trouble taking pop tarts, its one of our favorites and I have always taken at least 1 box with me when I go with my children and now grandchildren.

Believe it was more of a 'heads up' that if you got an agent that was especially moody that day, it could happen.. after all, they ARE filled with a 'gel like substance' if it was scooped out, it wouldnt hold it's shape, so could be considered a gel.

Oh I understand, I was just indicating that in all my trips I've never had that issue. I take peanut butter and jelly sandwiches too and never had an issue

Wonder if oatmeal cream pies would be a problem? Taking those too. I'd hate to have to throw all this stuff out.

MuchLovedMama, that's me too! I'd rather not include items in my carryon than to throw things away! Just can't stand the waste. Since I saw the cupcake issue, we're preparing to pack our leftovers in our checked bag. Oh, how I would cry if I had to throw away Starring Rolls cupcakes & POR Magic Cookie Bars!!!!!

Yeah I'm thinking about putting those items packed tightly in a lock and lock container in my checked luggage. If it's packed snugly I don't think that much more harm can be done. Last time it was fine so hoping it'll be fine this time too.

The last time at MCO, we each had a grocery store sealed pudding cup. They took hers away, but not mine!
