To feel like you have no purpose in life? Just wondring...

Oh absolutely! When I find myself feeling that way I use it to motivate myself to FIND that purpose.
Does it help if I tell you I think it's real normal to go have those feelings?

Life is full of ups and downs, blessings and curses, losses and gains...there's something of value in each experience, character building if you will.

*hugs* cuz you sound like you may need one! :)

Yes it actually does help to think that someone else thinks that it is normal to have those feelings. Because lately it seems like everyone else is set. And I'm all like this guy ---> :confused3

I think it's human nature to feel that way. Most people come to some point or points in their life where we ask what am I doing here? Why am I here? Where will I go?

I think it's part of growing as a person. Or at least it CAN be if you let it. On the other hand it could be depressing!

A thought just hit me and I don't know if it will make sense to you but we have to have opposition in all things. We couldn't quite appreciate exquisite joy if we'd not known sorrow or the blessing of good health if we'd never been sick. You take those moments and grow from them like a seed pushes up through the soil to reach the sunlight. It's hard work but worth it.

Here's good thoughts to you and hugs as well :grouphug:

I'm gonna be 51 in Sept and I still feel :confused3 a lot of the time. LOL

Something interesting I've discovered too as I get older, the people who I always thought had their lives all together really didn't/don't have them together. They were just good at faking it. The reality is we ALL feel out-of-sorts with life at times......I don't think anyone really escapes that feeling, but most probably hide it and don't let on.

Deep thoughts for late night huh? :teeth:

Oh VERY well put!! :thumbsup2

Sure it's normal.

So go out and find a purpose. And I don't mean to be flip. It's just that when I start thinking that way, it means I am in a bit of a rut and need to find something different to do, whether it's a new sport or leisure actvity, a new volunteer opportunity, a new job...something to shake things up a bit.

For me personally, I always find satusfaction in feeling liek I am heloing people or doing some good in the world, so I tend to gravitate toward something like that.

My theory is that every 10 years you are "reborn". It could be you are gearing up for age 30 and feel the pressure to get yourself on track.
The pressure you feel to find your own purpose is part of the process.

In this search you have to let go of things from the past. So...some things have to be "let go" so new things can come in to your life. Whether it is grudges, parent ideals, friendships that are changing, etc...It can get overwhelming and depressing.

Bottom line....You are feeling pressure and now you have to take some "leaps of faith" to find your path.

Sometimes it pays to go to a good therapist to help you get back on track. So if you are feeling really depressed go see someone.

I am not being flip, but if it wasn't normal, Rick Warren wouldn't have had a wildly popular book called The Purpose Driven Life. If you are religious, its a great book.

Very true!

Ash, you'll figure things out soon.

I feel like that every so often - mostly during the depression lows of my [diagnosed by my psychologist BF] bipolar disorder. Of course, I also think a lot more negative things than that during the depressed phases. I spend more time in a fairly manic state (where, of course, I think I am meant to do amazing things) though, so it's not too often.

If everyone knew, there wouldn't be rockin' songs like this:

What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alfie,
Then I guess it's wise to be cruel.
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie,
What will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Alfie,
I know there's something much more,
Something even non-believers can believe in.
I believe in love, Alfie.
Without true love we just exist, Alfie.
Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing, Alfie.
When you walk let your heart lead the way
And you'll find love any day, Alfie, Alfie
would you tell me what's it all about?
what's it all about? Alfie, Alfie, Alfie.
What's it all about? Whats this all about?
what's it all about Alfie? tell me
what's it all about Alfie? what's it all about Alfie?
just tell me yeah. what's it all about?
what's it all about?
