Is it necessary to resort hop?

Hi everybody! (long time lurker here)

Essentially I liked to lurk around the trip reports and read up on tricks and tips but has now come to a question that google did not have an answer to (CRAZY RIGHT!!! )

So I'm from Vancouver, BC (Canada) and I've been to WDW with my now husband (then bf) a couple of years back. Since then, we've gotten married and i've given birth to a son. I want to take advantage of the fact that children under 2 fly free (and free admission for children under 3 at WDW) with my son. OR... maybe I JUST want to go back to the magical world of WDW:cloud9::cloud9:)

My son will be 18 months by the time I planning to take my family, includes me, husband, my mom, and my dad on Oct.30 - Nov.12. The reasoning behind these dates are my best hunches on getting the last day for MNSSHP and the first date for MVMCP.

I'm just wondering if anybody here has resort hop before and has found it necessary to do so? I'm only thinking of doing this because the little one is most likely going to need his afternoon naps (as almost EVERYBODY in this forum has said non naps = meltdowns) and being at a closer resort means less travel times.

My little one currently doesn't mind napping in his stroller BUT i find that he tends to refuse to nap when there are stimulations around him (which there WILL be at WDW.. heck.. i'm looking around all the time).

So has anybody felt the need to cut down on resort travel time with their little ones?

Thanks for your thoughts!!:thanks:

When my kids were small we didn't change resorts - it was nice to unpack and be settled without having that day in between where you check out at 11 and can't check in till 4. Now we often hop because our party size changes, so if I start the trip with my dd's and then family joins us I don't want to pay for the bigger room/vila when I don't need it.

Disney does make it easy to move, they will transfer your bags for you so you can spend the day at the park but IMHO it is not ideal with a toddler.

I had good stroller nappers so that helped, they would nap in the stroller if they were tired in the afternoon or even evenings after a bath if we decided to stroll around Epcot WS. We also alternated later nights with sleep in mornings and did pool breaks for everyone!

In no way would I make any assumptions NOW on what your child is going to be like in 10 months! The only constant with babies is that as soon as you get used to their routine, they change it up!!

That said, we're on my 7 year olds 7th trip and we've never changed resorts. He either napped in the stroller (or more likely on me as I was a babywearer). He took many cat naps in dark rides and shows which were able to get us through the day though we never did late nights (still don't). The one time we tried a mid day break, he slept on the bus but was awake (yet cranky) back at the resort and we never made it back to the parks that day. I did find a stroller with a large sunshade (we had a citi mini) to be necessary, both for napping when he was little and for decompression time as he got older.

Have fun!
