Is it mental to even think about going at the weekend?

I'm trying to price up a cheeky wee Christmas trip to see the lights/tree and just soak up the atmosphere :goodvibes

We've never been at Christmas before and would just me me and DD/DS on a cheap stopover, maybe 1 or 2 nights at the most.

I can see some good deals for the Santa Fe on the Dutch website which I'd be happy with, but having trouble matching up flights from here ( I need to relocate to Paris ;)) so i'm looking at all options.

Will Saturdays and Sundays be absolutely crazy in the run up to Christmas? I'm thinking 13/14 Dec. I don't mind queues and we'll probably not go on that many rides anyway, but I cannot stand massively busy shops where you can't move or see anything.

Anyone been at weekends in December before?

Julie I'm surprised at you - you're the Queen of high-season relaxed trips to DLP - if you can't cope with a Christmas season weekend at DLP, I don't know who can :thumbsup2!

Do the shops before late afternoon, avoid them completely at park closing time, make good use of EMH, and don't bank on doing many rides during the bulk of the park day. Maybe schedule a park or studios guided tour for Saturday afternoon to while away some of the busiest hours of the busiest day?

I should have known better than to ask here :lmao:

Yes, we're used to it being busy but normally in the summer and I don't fancy getting soaked or freezing if its very, very busy. That said, i'm sure we'd cope.

Crunching numbers time :surfweb:

It is unbelievably magical. Im sorry now we didn't book for Nov/Dec next year but we are confined (albeit happily to January).
Hope you get great prices and SF rooms are so fresh and they even feel bigger since the refurb. For the budget option they don't feel cheap ;)

its no secret that my favourite time of year to visit DLP is between October and December ie prime getting soaked/cold weather. There are loads of places you can go to warm up, for example Videopolis in the main park is going to have a little show on the stage several times a day, and of course you have the show venues in the Studios, and the DLH for afternoon tea or just a relax on the sofas there in the lobby, while admiring the beautiful christmas tree and decorations.
I have fond memories also of enjoying a hot drink and a warm sit-down inside Victorias on a cold February evening this year, waiting for Dreams to start.

Honestly, there is nothing to compare with the Magic of the tree-lighting and castle lighting ceremonies. And the tinkly music on Main St Usa - I have tingles at the back of my neck just remembering it pixiedust:.

Go for it - you know it would be rude not to! It will get you in the Christmas spirit.

I'm beginning to get a bit excited but don't know that I can fit it with the flights/times i'm getting.

At the moment I'm thinking Santa Fe, Thursday 12 - Sat 14 or Fri - Sun. Depends on what time I can get off work and if the kids have anything important at school on those days. I don't want Lewis missing out on his shepherd starring role at the school nativity :)

I have always wanted to go at Christmas and even now have both days fully planned - and I only started seriously considering it this morning :rotfl::rotfl:

I think we'd treat ourselves to breakfast at the DLH and I know I'd love to see the lobby in there with the tree and stuff.

Oh, what to do :upsidedow

Omg Julie are you going to go for it ????
I'm thinking of a 2015 Xmas trip I'm not a last minute sort of girl lol.
Unlike you hope you get flight time right
Xx

I did a weekend trip last December and it was amazing. It was quite crowded but I think that only added to the atmosphere - the lights, decorations, music, calvacade... everything just felt really magical.

If you're worried about crowded shops the only time I felt like I couldn't move/breathe was in the Main Street shops right before the parade. Otherwise I never felt the shops were overcrowded (even World of Disney after park closing felt okay).

Also on the Saturday I was there, the queues were quite long during the day (around 1 hour for most rides), but after dinner time the park suddenly got a lot emptier (I remember walking on to PoTC). I'm not sure if this is at all a trend though! EMH was also great.

So... go for it, it's absolutely magical at Christmas! :)

Go for it!

And take lots of pictures and post us a trip report - I love reading yours :)

We just cancelled out trip to Vienna/Budapest for Thanksgiving after finding out I will lose my job on Christmas. I found out yesterday that I will be able to continue my job, and 2 hours later got an email from Disney. If it wasn't meant to be a trip, then I don't know what other signs there could be. We are going over Thanksgiving and not telling our daughter until we get there. If you can swing it, I 100% say do it!!!! :cool1:

Thanks everyone - your comments are just what I expected :thumbsup2

I'm having real trouble matching up flights with the dates we need and various other things that I need to be here for.

Number crunching I think I can manage but not sure exactly what days I can get off work that will work with the flights.

So, decision is YES I want to go, don't care if it's only for one night, but might not actually be able to.....I'll know more on Monday ::sad2:
