I usually only buy diapers once a month because I buy the big box of huggies. Today I went to buy diapers and the biggest box of Huggies only has 82 diapers in it and I paid the same that I did last month for the box that had 96!

YES! They have. Instead of ANOTHER price hike, both Pampers and Huggies shrunk package size hoping we wouldn't notice.

I HATE that! I just got used to 70 diapers for $19.97. I buys luves at walmart. I love em. I tried pampers again and they leaked everywhere. They're actually sending me coupons. I called. But this is ridiculous! Can't wait till my twins are potty trained.

I noticed it a few months ago with pampers and it ticked me off. They also used to always put coupons in the packages, and I haven't seen any of those in awhile either.

I noticed Huggies Supreme boxes shrunk a few months back. We used to get 74 diapers per box and now we get 68. It's only a few diapers, but it adds up over time.

the # of diapers in a box also gets smaller as the diaper size gets bigger so size 1's will have more in a box than size 5's because the diapers are bigger.

This is true but in our case, we've been using the same size since last Fall and the number of diapers provided in that same size has decreased in the last couple of months. I even compared a new box with an old one that I had at home to make sure I wasn't going crazy when I first noticed the change - the old size 4 box said 74 and the new size 4 box says 68.

This happens alot with food items. The size of the bag or box stays the same in length & width, but they put less food in the bag or box, keep the price the same and hope people don't notice and continue buying the product.

When my hubby got home last night and I told him about the diapers, he asked how old our first born son was when we started potty training. I said oh about the same age as Ben now. He said "Well, looks like we need to start potty training!"

I noticed the same with coupons. I usually buy the Huggies with Mickey on them. They didn't have any size 4(every size but the one ya need) so I bought the Huggies Supreme and they have 64 in the box but the regular Huggies have 74 and they are the same price!
So anyway, I am glad I am not going crazy with the diaper shrinkage and now I am off to Wal*Mart(yet again) to buy Training Pants!

I do the same thing. I don't know how/why people buy diapers at regular stores, they are so darn expensive. Pampers are almost $40 a box at BJ's!!!!! I get Luvs there for $29.99n and sometimes they have coupns for $5 off.

....it costs about $300-$400 one time and then you are done. They can be reused for other kids as well. So much more economical. Better for your pocket book. Better for the environment.

Yup, yup. We use cloth at home but disposables when we're out, and I expect I'm in for a bit of sticker shock the next time I need to buy diapers, but when a mega-pack of Luvs lasts several months those price hikes don't hurt so badly.

The diapers they sell at the wholesale places around here don't work for DD so we're stuck buying them at a regular store. I always use coupons, but it's still frustrating when they take some out of package and charge the same amount as before.

Look around closely and you'll notice a lot of packages that have shrunk the quantity while many times jacking up the price. My fellow disers, say "Hello" to Mr. Inflation. I'm afraid he'll be staying awhile.

Ice Cream, too. Just try and find a half-gallon of ice cream that actually contains a half-gallon! I'm waiting for a gallon of milk to lose a couple of ounces any time now.

For coffee, invest in a little mill and grind your own beans; buying the bag-your-own whole bean kind is considerably cheaper, and it's usually better coffee. (Millstone consistently gets decent reviews.) Grinding your own in a power mill only takes a few seconds, and you can pre-grind a few days worth at a time if you prefer, just keep it in the freezer in an airtight container.

I buy my diapers at Sams Club, but I still buy Huggies -- Luvs make the kid break out in a rash. Last count for size 4 was 176 to a case, for $39.48, for a per-diaper price of 22.4 cents each. That's the best price I can get, even if I use a coupon at a regular store. (We also bought stock in Kimberly-Clark when our oldest was born; that normally offsets it a bit, too, though K-C did lose money in the recent downturn, like just about every other stock.)

The Costco store brand dipes are pretty good, but I just love Pampers Baby dry, so I go back and forth between the two.
