I am insane to think that if I was having surgery that my husband would sit and wait for me???

No not insane. Also, most places require that who ever drives you stays there throughout your surgery.

No you aren't!! When I was having oral surgery my husband waited for me, rather I made him even though our house was only 5 minutes away..

Not in my opinion. My DH had outpatient surgery a couple of years ago - the whole process was about 6 hours. I sat in the waiting room, read, watched some t.v., napped....but I waited.

I'm hopefully having breast reduction surgery this summer. Now, with two little kids, I don't expect my DH to sit at the hospital the whole time, but if we were childless, then I would hope he would. He still may, if we can get someone to watch the kids.

It depends on the timing, once I sent Dh home so he could meet the kids at the school bus

I was just curious... my best friend is having breast reduction sx RIGHT NOW and I called her DH to check up and he is at work... which is about 45 mins on a good day,no traffic from the Sx. center.

Now with that being said, he is a business owner and can take off at anytime ( and does to play golf every friday) I ripped into him about not being there and he was like what was i gonna do for 5 hours. UMMMM i dont know, pray that all goes well and nothing happens to your wife and that her ****s come out looking great since its your fault they are all screwed up in the first place,( another story lol) you big dumb SH#%$IT!!!! I could at least get past it if he was at home with their child, sx center is 5 mins from their house, but NOOOOO he is at the office, if something goes wrong then he is about an hour away with evening traffic.
I would have sat waiting if I would have known. my husband was horrified he wasnt there. Oh well different strokes, i guess.
Whatever, rant over. I just think he is sooo STOOPID!!!!!!!!

4 years ago, I had to tell DH to STAY in case I didn't wake up after surgery....he grumbled about it, but stayed and after I woke up in recovery he went home. I didn't see him again till 6 or 7 pm.

I would and have stayed. So has he...I just would not want it any other way. Hopefully he feels the same, or ...

I remember being wheeled to recovery, and seeing my DH there, and mumbling something drug induced.

kids or not...I'd stay with DH and he'd stay with me. I'd get someone to pick the kids up from school/watch them!

Well at least he was at work..my friend was having heart surgery and her husband chose that time to sneak away for a quickie with his piece on the side!!!

I can't imagine my husband not waiting for me. I would also never think of leaving him when he was having surgery.

I have had several surgerieds. My Dh dropped me off and came back around the time the surgery would be over. We have two daughters and I would rather he be with them than sit for hours in a hospital. He has a pager and a cell phone in case he needed to be reached. I dont think it's a big deal.
When my friend had surgery, I dropped her off at the hosp, went home to get my girls ready for school then went back to the hosp. around the time she would be finished. Why do I want to sit for 4 hours?
Ir doesn't mean that DH doesnt love me or that I dont care about my friend. I just dont see why he or I should have to stay for 4-5 hours in a hospitla when there are other things that I could be doing. The surgeries have never been life threatening, they were all planned. Yes they could end in tragedy as any surgery, but whether DH or I are at the hospital wouldn't make a difference.
