hi again,
is it just me or are the shops in florida not as cheap as you think they will be? For example last september we bought a few cd's in orlando, and Tampa yet when we got back home they where just as cheap as the supermarkets.

any of your opions more than welcome.

I don't think that stuff like CDs, DVDs or consumer electronics are that much of a bargain in Orlando, especially in shopping areas with large number of tourists visiting. On the other hand, I think there are some great prices to be had on some clothing and footware, especially at Belz.

If you are looking to make a major purchase it pays to do some research beforehand to see if you are getting a good price. I once saved £600 on a pair of specialist hi-fi speakers bought from a dealer in Orlando, but that was only afetr several week's research on mail order places in the UK and the US. It was only becuase I knew how much I would have to pay elsewhere that I was cerain I was getting a good price.

The days are gone when it was cheaper to buy CD's in America.

Websites such as Play.com have current releases at £8.99 post free in the UK and you're not going to ever beat that in America.

I suppose the only real benefit of shopping for CD's in America is to find that US only release, and therefore having to save yourself a fortune buying it on import in the UK.

Still always worth a look around Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney though, especially if you fly Virgin and have the money off vouchers !!!

I do find some of their clothes and designer stuff cheaper than in the UK. Especially as the dollar has been a little better for us this year.

I definitely found clothes to be a lot cheaper, but the best buys I found were dvds. I have a region one player and tend to get a lot of dvds over the internet, so for the big season long dvds (ie The Sopranos, West Wing and 24), these were definitely cheaper. Ordering from Play is ok but if the package gets checked by Customs you pay an import charge. My best dvd bargain was series one boxset for The Sopranos for £37 from a shop in the Premium Outlets - fuggedaboutit!!

CD'S have come down in price in this country so would advise against buying when in the US.

Clothes, depends on the label if you buy Ralph Lauren then it's bound to be cheaper over there, european labels though will be cheaper over here.

My first visit to Orlando was in 1986 and went wild over the bargains, but I've definitely noticed that over the years it's harder to find a real bargains - not that the prices have increased that much in Orlando, but that pricing seems to be getting more competitive in the UK (whether we will admit it nor not!).

Its pretty much only clothing thats cheaper these days, although there are some consumer electronics offers to be had...for example, Walmart sells the new Gameboy Advance SP for $99, which compares favorably to our shop prices of between 80 and 90 ukp.

I'd agree that it's clothes that really are much cheaper - especially with designer outlets and the big sale discounts you can get in department stores. I tend to stock up for the kids as Gap and so on are much cheaper out there (not that Gap sale's here don't have bargains) if you get a sale in an outlet store there...I'm happy and so are they :)

I think you need to go with an idea in your head of what you pay here so as not to get swept along with 'buying fever'!

Wise words! I find buying fever is bad enough when I'm at home. When I'm on holiday, the weather is warm and the sun is shining buying fever can be almost overwhelming...
