does anyone else think that the merchandise sold at the WS is becoming more and more, well, junky...to be blunt about it?

You mean more-so than any other product being sold anywhere else in the universe these days? :goodvibes

Not so much.

There is always some "not so great stuff" just about anywhere you go. But I think they still have loads of wonderful things. Can't wait to be spending my money in just a couple of months!

I think alot of stuff at WDW can be "junky" - look at the cheap store at DTD and you will find it:) I really never shop at WS, I would rather eat at it! :rotfl2:
D.D.

It seems there is more stuff that costs less, and is worth less, too. There is even a "under $10" store in DTD.

You can still spend a lot of money if you to the right place. :rotfl:

I know what you mean. I still have and wear regularly the Mickey sweatshirt that I bought in 1990. Paid under $20 for it! :earsgirl:

Some of it's junky, all that plastic princess stuff, for instance. ;)

But they have a lot of nice, non-junky stuff too - it's all in what you're looking for.

My gripe is the repeat merchandise. You go in 20 stores in WDW and find the same exact stuff. It used to be that each store was unique - not anymore.

I don't buy stuff from the WS typically. Most of the junky stuff can be found at Pier1, The Old Time Pottery, or Pottery Barn outside of WDW. Yes, I know that there are a few items that can't, but it's all really overpriced and usually pretty junky fare. I know that all the pots, drums, toys, clothes, and knick-knacks are supposed to be authentic, but most of the truly authentic items are too expensive for me to consider......now, let me get home and on the net and suddenly most of it is available about 25% cheaper. There is a toy store over in Germany, I think, that is just outrageously priced. It's just sad.

The only thing that we bought in the WS, outside of food, on our last trip was a blanket with the Holidays Around the World Mickey on it......it was $35, but when you are freezing your buns off on a scooter, you will gladly pay that to warm up. Maggie

Those lovely clocks at the Japanese Dept Store are generally cheaper at WDW than other places. The tempered glass cutting board in the store behind the French film (though actually mfg in China) are also cheaper at WDW than other places. It depends on what you're looking for.
