Is it just me, or does Boma not appeal to other people?

We liked Boma a lot. We thought it was unique for a buffet style restaurant. We liked the decor, and DH and I liked the food. DSD was 13 when we went 3 years ago, and was a little pickier, but she still found food she liked. As a matter of fact, she is highly allergic to nuts, and we told the hostess. The chef came out and personally gave us a tour of the buffet to tell us what DSD could and could not eat. He was great.

That being said, Boma doesn't hold a candle to Jiko. If you can swing Jiko instead DO IT!

We had a short trip in January. We went to Jiko, since we weren't going to have time for both. On a longer trip, I'd go back to Boma.

We have never been but after reading all the reviews we are trying both breakfast and dinner this December. I gave DH the choice for dinner and after I read him the menu and the reports he said lets give it a shot, more positive feedback on it than negative, how bad can it be?

just got back from BOMA for the second time.........the coconut curry soup alone is worth the trip........aside from that the calamari salad was unreal, the prime rip was amazing, and everything else i tried was tasty.

Not a Boma fan, but there are a few reasons why it might not be appealing:

1) You aren't adventurous

2) You aren't a buffet fan (that's me - should have known better).

3) Its out of the way. It really is. I'm glad so many people think its worth going out of the way for, but we do a lot of our planning based on where we will be in the evening - and we are never on that end of the World (unless we are staying at the AKL).

There are probably more, but I think those are three that if they describe you, you may want to consider if Boma is a good choice.

I do agree that Boma is out of the way, if you do not plan a day at AK....it was hard for me to justify Boma on a trip when we were not planning on doing AK...this Dec we are having breakfast before going to AK and dinner another day when we have nothing special planned.....

I have not tried Boma for dinner yet but i really like the breakfast there. I got 2 ressies there this summer. :goodvibes

We loved Boma. I would have to say my favorites were

Coconut rice
Ribs YuM!!
prime rib.

Loved Zebra Domes

My sister LOVED It..but I was not happy- Now I am not a picky eater, but it just didn't look good to me.
the kids & I had potatoes, pasta & mac & cheese

WE were concerned also but we all loved it. Even my 9yr picky eater went back for 2nd's. He did not do that anywhere else. Try it. Where else can you get the chance to try something different and if you don't like it there is plenty of American food.

rutroh......i am hearing coconut central here. My hubby HATES, LOATHES AND DESPISES all forms of coconut, even coconut oil (he swears he tastes it)...DD is allergic to most fruits and nuts. (her mouth and throat itch, nothing deadly, but very uncomfortable).

Should i cancel this ADR now, and try to get something instead? ITs out last night at Disney and we were going to eat there after AKL...now im worried... Our meal was for Oct. 7th (also my birthday :( )

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Boma! But... I don't understand what is so "adventurous" about it!!! :lmao: :confused3 Is it because I'm a Californian??? My mom and son love it too. We went for dinner last year and loved it so much we had to stop at the podium on the way out and make an ADR for breakfast. It's on the absolute top of our list for this year as well (both dinner and breakfast again).

If you are worried about anything, you just need to tell your server - they will be able to point out anything that has coconut in (and there are an awful lot of things that don't feature coconut!).

As for your daughter - when we were there, a lady on the next table seemed to be allergic to just about everything! So they brought the chef out and he had a long discussion with her about what she could and could not eat, and cooked a dish especially for her, which she seemed very pleased with :)

Hope that puts your mind at rest a little?

Looking at the menu I was never very excited to eat at Boma. The menu doesn't do the food justice. Once you start chowing down, it's a whole other story. Well, at least it was for me.

You know your husband. Some of them can be a little childish - i.e. they see 80 items on the Boma buffet, six of which have coconut, and they focus on those six --- "everything here has coconut, you know I don't like coconut, why are we here." Then they think that coconut is hidden in everything. Others take it in stride, they don't even notice the six things with coconut, and are too busy eating the 74 things that don't have coconut.

That's what I ended up having after trying a bunch of different things. $26 for mac & cheese and chicken strips.

I wasn't impressed. I don't think we would go there again. I was excited to try as a lot of people on here seem to like it. It just wasn't for us.

It wasn't horrible but we would prefer to eat somewhere else.

Not to worry, as it's not calling my name either. I'm a fairly picky eater and after reviewing the menu, there is very little there that I would eat, so to me it's not worth the time or money.

Check out the thread to Boma or not to Boma, it gave me some insight into our ADR plans.

Boma did not appeal to me. I loved AKL, but the food there was just not my speed. It seemed as though most of the meats they offered had some kind of "sweet" sauce or spice attached to it. I hate meats that are flavored that way.
I think I'll be trying Jiko sometime soon, but Boma is a no go for me.

Take heart! The ONLY food in all of God's creation that I've found that I absolutely cannot stomach is coconut. I don't even like to see a picture of it on a box ... and DH is right. You CAN detect the slightest trace.

Having said that - I had absolutely no problem with Boma. I purely love the place. The rest of the family isn't as enchanted as I am, but they like it OK, and DW, the pickiest being in all the universe, finds plenty to eat.

For anyone, my counsel is to try it just once for dinner. If you don't like it, then don't go back. But if you DO like it, then you'll have somewhere you enjoy visiting.
