is it just me or do people not talk about VWL much?

Just curious in reading this board for the past months. (oh and my SS contract is with the closing company as we speak) Why do most people talk about loving OKW, BCV, BWV and not go on and on about VWL? When you go on Tugs top 10 it is there and the Fodors book has a star next to it but I don't hear as much on these boards about it. What are the negatives and positives about it?

The reason you don't read to much about the VWL is that us owners like to keep how great the resort is a sercret. :rotfl2:

But then, How can you say anything bad about:
Great check in,
Friendly valet and bell services :moped:
Great quiet pool right out the back down of the villas
Bus stop for resort just a quick hop out the front doors
Great and quiet room in lobby
Large themed pool and there always seems to be plenty of lounge chairs
Whispering Pines Restaurant
Great boat ride to MK and Fort Wilderness (Movie Night & Hoop-De-Doo)
Water activities right out the back door and a short walk. Those mini mites are terrific.

Furtherest room is like walking down the FIRST hallway at BWV.
Great gift shop and children activities.

Can I say more.
IT IS THE BEST KEPT SECRET

We love the VWL. I especially love renting those small boats at the dock and riding around. I love sitting on the wonderfully place rocking chairs and enjoying the scenery.

We've only stayed there for 3 nights so far, and are looking forward to our 4 night stay this December.

VWL owners are like Northwestern Insurance, "The Quiet Company". :flower:

We also love VWL. We have a hard time trying to book at other DVCs (unless we need lots of room or need to conserve points by staying at OKW), so we have nothing to compare it to!

OK. Yall have got to quit this ;) Now I want to add on at VWL! I know Gram would love it. She has always wished we'd own a log cabin somewhere. This may be it! Add-On-Bug - shoo, don't bother me! I haven't even gone "home" yet :rotfl:

In all seriousness, VWL is the smallest DVC, so probably less people in general who have stayed there, or own it compared to the other DVC's. And if we keep it to ourselves, then thats less people to fight off for reservations! :rotfl: We love it, it's been our favorite DVC for far, and we just added on more points there last week!

We own all our points at VWL and we just love it. We love how tranquil it seems after a busy day in the parks. We love how you feel you are somewhere special away from the rest of the crowds. The theming is unbelievable! The mouse boats are awesome. Every time I plan a trip to WDW and suggest maybe trying someplace different for a change, my kids yell "NO, we want to go home to the Wilderness Lodge!"

I am just beginning the "looking into this" phase of buying points and I've already decided that I want to own at VWL. My parents own at OKW and I'm not interested in another DTD location in the family so that rules out SSR. And I love VWL because of it's location on Bay Lake. It reminds me of the old camping trips I took as a kid with our pop up trailer back in the eighties. It does seem to have the least walking too. For me, VWL is a no-brainer!

While we have not stayed at the villas at VWL, I did snoop around a couple of times, and think the themeing is wonderful as well as the quiet. It looks a bit too much like home though for me to stay there! ;)

We also own all of our points at VWL, and for good reason. It is soooo quiet there, and after a day in the parks, all we want is a quiet place where we can kick back and relax....either by the quiet pool (can listen to that great WL music there) or in our room.

Everything that Kenny had to say is true. Whenever I walk thru the doors at VWL and hear that "swoosh" sound, I just smile! :)

I second ErinC's opinion that much of the "silence" is based on VWL being such a small percentage of DVC owners.

But, start reading the boards around Christmas time and you'll hear lots of hoots and hollers about VWL due to the theming and the beautiful decorations!

For me personally, it's a beautiful resort but I have no desire to stay there (or buy there) as we live in the Pacific Northwest and I see all that beautiful timber on a daily basis. Therefore, when I go to Florida I want to feel like I'm in Florida. That's what's great about DVC...different strokes, for different folks!

Thanks everyone for all the positive comments about VWL. We are staying there in May and cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Granny, you might be be able to answer a question for me.

Is the toilet in a 1 bed villa in VWL in a separate room? It looks sort of separate in the allears pics but I cannot see if there is a door. It is useful in the mornings if the loo and the shower are in different rooms!

Thanks so much! We are really looking forward to 13 nights at your favourite resort. We only booked last week for 13 nights at VWL from May 1st. We were delighted (and surprised) that VWL was available just 5 weeks out. Cannot wait to get DD nearly 2 to MK!!!

thanks for the pictures althought I do have a question. In looking at a map of VWL pictures, the villas have pool and the lodge has a complex of pools. How far is it to walk from the villas to the complex area. Is it a hike? Also, is it just one slide? Which has a better pool slide area? SS or VWL?

If I remember correctly, the bathroom in the 1 bedroom has a seperate toilet room and the door between the toilet and the bathroom is a Slide (Pocket) door. Which would be why its hiding in the pictures. :)
