Is it hard to change resorts?

We really want to stay at BLT, but my in-laws home is SSR. We planning our trip for May 2010, so our 11 month window is in 2 weeks. We're traveling with a party of 6 adults and 3 kids (one in a pack-n-play) so we need a 2 bed-room villa. I'm thinking we book at THV in 2 weeks and then try to change to BLT at the 7th month window. That way if nothing is open at BLT, we already have a place. This will be our first DVC vacation, so I'm not sure how difficult this will be. Do any of you think this would be difficult? I know these are the 2 newest DVC resorts, so that is my concern.

I would definately book THV and then when 7 mos rolls around try to book BLT. It is probably hard to figure how quickly BLT is going to fill because it is not open yet. Look at it this way either way you will have a brand spankin new resort to stay in. It is a win/win situation.

IMPO, I hate to change in the middle!!!! I always tend to loose a day.... never goes over smoothly, if you must I sure hope you have the best of luck!!!

I agree! I hate being without a home for most of the day and packing and unpacking again. I like to settle in and not move. Disney is very good at moving your luggage if you do have to move, I just try to avoid it. I do often arrive on Saturday before my DVC stay, but will pack a small bag and leave the rest in the car.

Our home resort is also SSR. We usually do what you are planning. We book at SSR at the 11 month window and then try to change to another resort at the 7 month (we also own at BWV & love it there).

You may have trouble making the switch and you might not. Since BLT is not open yet it is kind of an unknown. But either way you will be in a great resort.

I think your plan is the best for your situation. At least if you can't get the BLT switch, you know you will be in another new resort and have plenty of room for all of you. I'm guessing you will likely get to switch as long as you are talking early May for the trip.
