Have the two senior citizens of the NFL quarterbacks played their last games?

Kurt Warner, 38, of the Arizona Cardinals, is set to announce his future plans on Friday.

Brett Favre, 40, of the Minnesota Vikings, has reportedly said that it is "highly unlikely" that he will be back next year.

Both QB's were injured in their NFC divisional playoff/championship games against the New Orleans Saints - Warner with a chest injury, Favre with an ankle.

I think they are both going to hang it up.

Warner has a lot of charity and mission work that I think he wants to do.

Favre is probably going to be a bit more cautious with any announcement, given the fact that he has already come out of retirement twice. And I think he doesn't want his incredible 19 years in the NFL to end with that horrific interception in the last minutes of the Saints game. But I think he will, in the end, realize it is time to walk away.

If that happens, the football world will have lost two amazing athletes who have given the fans many great memories.

I think you are right about Kurt Warner.

As for Brett Farve...hmm...I will believe nothing he says. Retire, unretire, retire, unretire.... Maybe he will just take some time to think about it.:) Or perhaps cut a deal with another Green Bay rival??:confused3

It will be interesting!!

I worry that if Favre doesn't retire he will become a joke (not because he can't play- he had a great season) and I worry it will be what he is remembered for - indecision rather than his long, productive NFL career. I hope he retires...and stays retired...

Favre will be retired when he's dead....otherwise, I'll always think there's a chance he's coming back.

This yearly drama / mediafest is why so many people got turned off to him, despite seeming like a good guy and being a very good player.

Favre will wait until training camp is over to announce he's coming back. :rotfl:

Favre is an Attention Drama Queen.

I think he will "retire" again the week before the Super Bowl since he can't have the Super Bowl limelight that he feels he deserves. So, he will hog what he can next week and try to make it all about him. Then he will try to return to the Vikings training during camp once he feel better.

I was a big Favre fan when he played for the Packers. I even liked him after his first two "retirements" while playing for the Pack. But enough was enough. The Packers and the fans were jerked around by "Mr. Quitter" long enough. How could the Pack go ahead with a QB replacement when Brett couldn't make up his mind if he was going to play or not? I was glad when they finally kicked his butt to the curb 3 years ago.

I posted this a couple times on other threads. It sums up how I feel about Favre:

I can't stand Farve and I hope he retires.

Warner, I like him but with his age and injury it might be time for him to hang it up.

Warner--I believe 100% he's retiring. Great guy, football will miss him.

Favre--like others, I will believe it when I see it.

Warner - likely

Favre - doubt it, he is addicted to football. I like Favre but the fact is the guy is a alcoholic and was dependent on prescription pills. He is an addict and he replaced those addictions with an addiction to the game. I really don't think it is anything different. He likely wants to quit but doesn't have a clue who he is or what to do with himself if he does. I don't think he'll leave until injury forces him out or no one wants him.

I agree with the rest of you here...Favre is such a 'drama hound' and he's really screwed over a lot of people. I can't stand him and I was very mad when I found out that the Vikes picked him up! Sure, he had a good year, but look at how many mistakes were made in the playoff game. The Vikes need someone who's going to BRING THEM ALL the way, not just part of it! Favre can suck it! I won't believe that he's retired until he's dead...He seems to love the attention, but he's going to look like a complete fool if he starts all over with the retirement CRAP again this year. He's a joke.

::yes:: my thoughts exactly

Like many others have said about Favre, I will believe it when I see it. He had an outstanding career and holds many NFL records. Too bad he'll be known more for his indecisiveness than his accomplishments. As other poster's have said, we'll see once training camp is over if he returns or not.

As far as Kurt Warner goes, I will believe it more that he will retire (and stay retired) more so than Favre.

I wold agree with Kurt Warner but I suspect that Brett Farve will be back again. He got to close not to try one more time.

I certainly HOPE Favre goes away for good this time. I'm sick and tired of him and his antics and his prima dona attitude. Good riddance.

Warner I think will retire - he has better things to do in his life (like take underprivelaged children to Disney) and has nothing really left to prove on the football field that is worth the risk to his health and well being of continuing to play.

It's funny that people can job hop without comment unless they play a sport.

I hope that Favre retires now.

See, I think there is a fundamental difference in the characters of these two athletes.

I think football is all Brett Favre has ever done, and its all he has. That's why it is so hard for him to give it up.

Kurt Warner, on the other hand, has been through a lot more in life, and he has his faith, his family, his charitable foundation, his speaking engagements. I think he's ready to move on with his other missions in his life.

In Favre's case, it was more than just a "job hop". He retired and the Packers went forward with a new QB. THEN he changed his mind and the other QB had to step down when Farve took his position back. He did this THREE times and on the third time the Packers let him go. Imagine if you were a worker and your boss quit at Thanksgiving. You work really hard to learn everything and step up to the responsibilities of being the boss. Your employees like you and start to get used to the changes in the office. Then ... the ex-boss comes back after January 1st and the company demotes you and gives him back his job. Imagine this happens TWICE. :sad2:

Vikings fans ... you are welcome to him. Enjoy the roller coaster ride that is Brett Favre. Ask the Jet's fans how much fun it can be.

Brett needs to find something to challenge him and not just sit on his tractor cutting lawn in Mississippi. That is why he came back out of retirement twice, he freaked out when training camp started-he was bored to death. Our local tv stations found him practicing with the local highschool kids. Can you image those kids catching his passes and working out with Brett? Brett needs someone to start up something for him to do, otherwise he will definately be back with Minnesota next year, especially because they have a young team.
