Is it December Yet?? Cancelled with a Heavy Heart!

I understand about the tribes. I am sure they want the kids to retain their heritage.

I'd still update them yearly if they'd let us adopt her...... :rolleyes1

I understand to.....just as an adopted kid myself, I would have been hurt if everyone's last name was the same but mine. Hard to explain to a child why they can't have the same name as us. :sad2:

I understand how that is harder when they are too young to reason out why. I can see it from both sides because I have not been on the other side. One thought is that as long as she is still part of the the tribes she is more eligible for college money and such from the tribes. To have that extra money available I am sure would be nice.

I imagine she will be. I'm just excited at this point to figure out the plan. Addy is excited to see Mia again!!

Laurie, my friend you have a huge heart. You are going to be even busier than you are right now. I think that having Mia with Addy is the right thing. Then the girls can be together, and Mia will have a good home. That is the most important thing.

I believe the girls being together is definitely the right move. It will add a bit more to my plate, but I'm actually hoping it will give Shyann a playmate (Michayla doesn't interact on a regular basis) and I think it will "complete" Addy if that makes sense. She's always known about Mia and I know it bugged her to not see her. So this will either be more work or it could turn out to be a real blessing in many, many ways!!

I understand what you mean about Addy. I think that maybe having Mia with her will be a good thing for her. It will definitely be interesting for you.:goodvibes

That is so exciting!!! I hope it happens. She is a cutie pie and looks just like Addy. princess:

Hi Laurie!

Just following you over from my PTR and dropping a little note. Very cool about your possible new kiddo.

As an only child growing up in a small family, I think Sterling and I are only ever going to want one kid to raise ourselves, but it's neat to see how other families come together and how the dynamics of a larger group as so different.

Good luck with the adoption process. I hope everything goes smoothly!

Hey, Laurie ... wanted to let you know that I did start a pre-trip dining report ...

And I agree with all that have said you have an amazing heart! People like you make the world a much better place! :goodvibes

Hi Vicki!! I'll get over there and check in out later this weekend. Today was the first service for my step-dad. If you've never been to a Military Honor's Ceremony at a National Cemetery......wow....beautifully done & extremely emotional. Wasn't sure I was gonna make it thru the whole thing. :sad1: My mom is a STRONG woman!!!

Thank you too!!

Hi Carey & Welcome!!! :wave2:

I knew when we first got married that I wanted 3-4 kids.....but as our 3 boys got older, the need to still want to parent was there....so we did foster care and the rest is history. I really thought we were done......but I can't turn my back on Addy's sister. We've seen her, spent time with her (even though it's been a while) and Addy has talked to her on the phone. It would kill me to know she was out there and I think Addy needs her. It's gonna be interesting to say the least!! :goodvibes

Oh Laurie, I am sorry that was so tough. When my BIL did the service for my sister it was at the national veterans cemetery across the way. They had the full military service. It was for a local service person who died in service. It was heart breaking to watch it. Then the bag pipes. I don't know about anyone else but hearing the bag pipes playing Amazing Grace it devastates me.

I knew today would be the hardest......tomorrow's will be more lighthearted filled with memories & stories.

This was short and no bagpipes! The honor guard stands at attention as we all pulled up, my mom was lead to her seat & the rest of us followed. They bring in Joe's ashes and the flag (folded). Then they shot 3 times (not a fan of gun fire & this just goes thru you) and then Taps played on a solo horn. The guard comes back in & unfolds the flag, snap it flat (and if you had a casket, this is where it would be draped), fold it back up, hand it to the commander who then presents it to my mom. Another commander brings her the 3 empty shotgun shells. Just typing this out is emotional!! My older brother (the minister) then did a very short service. So much more personal to have a family member do that.

We drove to the part of the cemetery where his ashes will be interned in the wall. (I had earlier picked up directions to find my dad's since my step-sister never told us and they didn't do the Military Honors either) :headache: Come to find out.......My dad and Joe are probably less than 50 feet from each other on the wall. I had to chuckle, because my mom will have her ashes put in with Joe's and she'll be there with both of her husbands!! :rotfl: She even found that ironic! (now, keep in mind this place is huge with many, MANY walls) They fill them in the order of deaths......good thing Joe didn't pass away back when my dad did (Joe was in the hospital & very sick at that time)......My mom could have been actually sharing an inside wall with my dad!!

So as you can see.....even with this being an extremely hard day......we still found something to laugh about. God is Good!! ;)

PS: I agree about the bagpipes.....ever since 9-11, I can't hear them without thinking of the loss of life that day with our police, fire & ambulance (as well as all the others).......Mike was a paramedic at that time and it really hit home!! I have to leave the room if someone sings "Oh Danny Boy" at karaoke.......ties into the services held for these heroes!!

I am glad you guys got that laugh. Laughter is so good for you.

Oh yeah. When Loren was getting ready to start high school it was his ambition to play bagpipes in the marching band. I was a mean mom, I just never would have survived that. And "Oh Danny Boy' tears me up too.

Laurie, such wonderful news about Mia! (love the name...same as my DD, only she is 40 and it was very unusual back then). When might you hear if she is definitely coming and when would that happen? Will she be in time for the Disney trip? Oh my..another airfare, tkt, DDP etc...but how special would it be for your family to have her with you on the trip.

You have such a special family....and you & Mike are exceptional parents. :grouphug:

(sorry I've not posted...was away, then catching uo this week.:thumbsup2 )

Hoping to have more information Monday/Tuesday. We won't take her in if it's not 100% she'll be staying. I wont' do that to her or to Addy. They have to be to the point of permanent placement.

They were saying they'd like to transition her this summer so she's totally settled in by school time........ummmmm, it's summer now!!

We're already talking about taking Mia to WDW!! She loves the princesses and she's never been to DL or WDW......so it will be very exciting for her to go!!

Glad your back!!!

Just spoke to Derek, he's having an amazing time in Florida!!! He's been training at the Disney University but it sounds like he start actually working this week at the All Star Movie's food court.

He went to the Animal Kingdom park today........he was able to let me know that Dinosaur would not be ok for the kids to ride. We had seen things about this ride being too realistic but wanted Derek to ride to give me an inside opinion. He said absolutely not for my kids.....even my thrill seeker Addy. He said it's too dark & the dinosaurs come after you. I'll take his advice!!! ;)

He also said that we HAVE to see the Lion King show. (which was high on my list already). For any of you that have seen Aladdin, the Musical at Disney's California Adventure Park.......he compared it like this: Aladdin 10 of 10........Lion King 20 of 10!! :woohoo:

I'm loving the insider info in helping us plan!!!

Wow, we do love the Lion King show but I am not sure I think it is better than Aladdin. Really it is just different for me I s'pose. We loved Aladdin for the humor and LK for the music.

Glad Derek is able to scope things for you. My advice would have been to skip Dinosaur as well ... it is very intense! But obviously Derek knows way better than I!

Did he see the Nemo show?
