I am packing for my May 1st cruise and wondering how cool it is on the decks at night. I imagine there are always winds, but does it feel cold even in May? I know this is subjective, but i would love to hear what people have to say. Like would kids have on jackets or sweaters? is it kind of like being on a beach at night...cross winds, but not really cold?

i would love to hear any opinions to help with packing. thanks.

My opinion is yes, it can be cold. I know that sometimes I need a sweater and other times not. Plus it can be cold in the restaurants.

What do you consider "cold"?

I imagine what's cold to someone from Florida may not be so cold to someone from Newfoundland. Also, where is your cruise? Alaska in May may be a tad bit cooler than the Caribbean.

Point taken!:) you are right...I left out that important piece of info! I am cruising on the Dream. So really hoping it will be warmer than Alaska! I have a DD who is always cold, so I am just trying to decide if a light sweater will be enough for up on deck at night. I didn't really plan on bringing anything warmer, but just checking.

In the Bahamas now the high temps are in the mid 80's with the heat index well above that.
Night lows are in the mid 70's.
Speaking from personal experience, after being out in the heat and sun all day, temps in the 70's feel "chilly" after sunset.
Now, add a ship in the middle of the ocean doing upwards of 24 knots (27mph), it is going to sweater weather up on an open deck at night
Pack accordingly

It was very warm when we were on our recent Dream cruise. Not one of us wore a light jacket once. I would still pack them though. I know in the past the kids needed them for the dining rooms, but not on this cruise.

Even when the air temps are warm, the decks get very windy at night (especially when the ships are moving). So, I always take sweaters--even for summer cruises.

On the Dream are the dining rooms cold?? I know on RCCL I'm always freezing. Trying to plan for the kids outfits.

I am cold at anything below 85 degrees...so IMHO yes, the outside decks can be chilly. We went to FL once in May and I was not what I would call hot. It was barely warm enough to swim to me. :confused3

(PS) The dining rooms are like ice boxes. I wore summer clothes (duh, it was July 25 so silly me, I thought it was SUMMER) and I FROZE at dinner. I was shivering. I used extra napkins around my shoulders because I was shaking. This next time I am taking a couple of lightweight sweater type cardigan things to take to dinner (one black, one white with scarf hems).

It can be chilly, especially cutting through the air-conditioning in a wet swimsuit! I'd recommend checking the weather reports the week of and deciding then. For late September, we needed hoodies at night on deck. Mostly from the breeze.
