Is it cheaper to purchase tickets at the gate?

Well is it? My friend is going with her bf dec 20-23 and figured they'd get tickets at the gate for the 21 & 22. I keep telling her to do it online with Disney or AAA, but she said she heard it's cheaper or half price at the gate.
Anyone know the answer to this?

Thanks for your help in advance!

At the gate is the most expensive way to go from what I have seen

She is going to be sorely disappointed if she thinks she'll get almost half off at the gate :confused3

That's what I was thinking! I looked at her like she was crazy!
To me they would be the most expensive then because you're already there so you might as well, especially if you have kids with you who have been looking forward to the trip.

I'll make sure my crazy friend knows. :)

We did this ONCE several years ago on a spur of the moment trip. Never again. THE most expensive way to buy them!

I spoke with the DVC CM about DVC discounts. She told me that the online discount for MYW tickets is the best ordering online.

In addition, point out to her that every minute she spends in line waiting to buy a ticket is one less minute she could be spending in the park!

Buy them at home, when the only thing you could be doing instead is laundry, dishes, vacuuming, cooking, dusting, scrubbing...

could you imagine the lines at the gate if tickets were in fact cheaper that way.

I think many many people buy them ahead of time to avoid that wait to buy them at the gate

Just to clarify this -- there are no DVC discounts for tickets, only for APs.

The best discounts from legitimate ticket brokers are normally:
Undercover Tourist
Maple Leaf Tickets
and a few others.

I don't know what kind of online discounts Disney has on tickets -- I've never noticed any.

hahaha. I will let her know.
She hasn't been in a while so I think she isn't thinking things through. I'll pester her until she realizes.

To my knowledge, Disney NEVER offers discounts at the gate. They could offer types of tickets only available at the gate, although I am not aware of any having been offered in quite a while.

Direct from Disney online isn't likely to get you any sort of discount either. It's rare if it happens at all.

Discounts are general found from the sources listed above.

And there are no real DVC "discounts" either. DVC members can get a special price on an Annual Pass (which the DVC site terms a "discount" but is not technically handled as such), but that's it - nothing whatsoever on MYW or other tickets (although this is subject to change).

Even with a discount, there is not much of a difference. You may save $7-10 on a 5 day pass, upto $23 on a 10 day, hopper, no expire. Still - every dollar you save is another dollar to spend on food & souvenirs. You also have a time savings of not having to wait at the windows & purchase tickets.

I will let her know about these sites, thanks everyone!

I don't know how soon she is going, but she might want to sign up for MouseSavers newsletter. It comes via email the 15th of the month and in it is a link for a slight discount for Undercover Tourist.

She's leaving the 20th, but I will let her know!

Is there no such thing as a two day ticket? If not, why is that?

There is, but the discounters generally don't carry them because Disney does not give them any sort of break on the price. 1- and 2-day tickets are generally going to be the same price everywhere.

Buying at the park isn't horrible. It is the same price that you would pay online through Disney but without a shipping fee. From my VERY limited experience, there isn't really a wait for buying them at the park either. They now have atm like machines where you can buy just about any type of ticket you want. I bought my family's five tickets in about five minutes. We were the only one using any of the dozen or so machines at rope drop on a Touring Plans 8 day.

I just purchased our tickets at AAA today and saved $10 off each 7 day PH. I was surprised I saved anything at all, so I was thrilled!

Disney does not discount one or two day passes.*

The ticket resellers will often add a surcharge to one or two day tickets since they have to pay full price for them.

Buying online (using Will-Call), buying at The Disney Store, or buying at the Park Ticket Window is all the same price.*

*A Florida Resident one day pass ordered online gets a 10% discount.

I am going crazy with this "fake" memory of a time when Disney Parks used to sell an after-4pm discount ticket or something like that. Please anyone!
