is it better to book room and buy tickets separately?

Price it out. We booked a room-only and then bought tickets from Undercovertourist.com. It was cheaper for us to do it that way then to book a package. I also bought 10 day passes so that we could use them for a future trip. Yes, it was pricey but in the long-run, worth it.

especially for that website!

it looks like the cancellation policy is way better if you book room only... think i will do that

thanks!

:)

The main reasons to get a package are to get special deals, or if you want the dining plan. You can only get the dining plan if you get a Magic Your Way package.

Don't forget that the 10-day passes expire within days after you first use it.

To the OP: If you are going to use Undercover Tourist, sign up for the Mouse Savers newletter that comes out on the 15 of the month. They always have special link in the newsletter that saves a few more $$$ off of ticket prices. You can only get this discount through the link.

It depends on your trip. If you just need a room without the dining plan, then you can do a room-only ressie and buy your tickets elsewhere. If you want the dining plan, then you can book a package with at least one ticket per person with the DDP, and buy the remaining tickets elsewhere, or buy all of your tickets with the package. If you're booking a special, then it's usually required to book with at least one day of tickets, and dining.

Unless you are booking with a Pin Code- those are often room only needed. We found it cheaper to use a pin code and buy separately. But you can price it out and see for youself.

If you want the dining plan here is a way to book it and break up the amount due at 45 days...

1. Book a *package* that includes your room and 1 day tickets - This amount will be due 45 days before you arrive.
2. A week before you arrive you can call and add the Dining Dlan - Amount for that will be due in full when you call. (you CANNOT add the Dining plan when you check in- you need to add it at least 3 days before you check in)
3. You can then pay to upgrade your tickets when you check in.

All of the above will depend if you are booking with a special rate that has certain requirements...like the Free Dining requires 2 day tickets with those packages.

HTH. :)

I would like to try this. But I heard Disney raises it's ticket rate in August. If I buy the one day ticket so I can get the DP, when I get to the resort do I up grade to more days on the ticket then? I thought I read soewhere that you should use the tickets so you "lock in" your old rate, then increase the number of days.

:confused3

I agree I would'nt book a package unless doing the dining plan. If you are booking a room only you may be able to get a good discount disney has some good offers for the summer if you are going at a later date and you have AAA you can see if a discount is available and if you book a room and a discount comes out for your dates you can call an add it on. Linda :)

Don't forget, a non-expiring ticket needs to cover two whole vacations (need not be consecutive). If you need to buy another ticket card to finish the second vacation, you usually end up spending more compared with separate non-nonexpiring tickets for each vacation.

Really depends how you vacation. We like the flexibility to just spend a couple admissions per trip and take in the stuff outside the parks and an extra event like the parties at MK. When we have MYW tickets for every day of our vacation we run ourselves ragged and it's less than magical. :rolleyes1
We can get 3 or 4 trips from a 10 day NE ticket! It's just a huge upfront cost so you have to make sure you will actually be going back- and makw sure you store them safely between trips.
