We've got a really short trip this May where we'll be arriving mid-day. (We almost never do this for this very reason). We usually arrive the night before or stay offsite the night before and check-in really early AM.

We will have APs and Park Hoppers and will be flying in. Would it be a big headache for the luggage and resort folks if we just drop our luggage with Luggage Service and head for the bus stop instead of checking in??

Then late that evening after closing down PI, we check in to a hopefully empty check-in desk??

Thanks,

Carol

Carol, Since you are checking in that day I don't see a problem. Sounds like a great idea to me!:D

We have often done exactly what you are describing, in that we used to stay outside the World the first night, then go and check in first thing in the morning. Lately we have changed to staying at a value or moderate the first night and checking into the Poly first thing in the morning. Our reason, however for doing this is that we have found that by checking in early in the day, we usually have a better chance of getting our building/room requests met. We have been told, and have come to believe that it's pretty much a first come/first serve type system. Our room is usually not ready, but we don't expect it to be when checking in at 6am. We just plan to leave our bags with the bellman (luggage services) and head off to the park. The other advantage is that we find that the lines at the desk are usually much shorter first thing in the morning than at any other time, and when we come back tired, we just go to our room and call for the luggage while we rest. I have read here, from Tyler, that at PC they deliver your luggage to your room even if you're not there so that would be even better, everything would be waiting for you when you return. I would vote for going ahead and taking a few minutes to check in before you head off.

My only concern is that it won't "be a few minutes" to check in. I've got a feeling with the mid-day lines it will be over an hour.

Believe me, I would much rather come in the night before, but with 3:30pm graduation, and the grands probably wanting to go out to dinner afterwards, and the last flight out at 7:30pm, it was just impossible.

Plus, this is a surprise, so I don't want to deal with telling my son that he can't party after graduation with his friends. I'll just have to stress that he MUST be home by 7am the next morning.

Feel free to drop off your luggage with the Luggage Assistance folks... just be sure to let us know that you'll be checking in late. If you check in past 10:00pm Sunday-Thursday, or midnight on Fri/Sat, make sure to let the Front Desk know you have your luggage stored, and will need to have it delivered.

I'd recommend at least checking out the check-in line... it's not always as long as one tends to think. :)
