My wife and I will be staying at GF in July. I was so excited to give her an "upscale" experience, but I'm worried that the food situation may disappoint me (and perhaps her).

Do you think it is wrong to go someplace like GF and not eat at any of the restaurants there. I'm a meat & potatoes guy, and some of the stuff there just looks a little to much to me.

What do you folks think?

No, I don't think it is a problem if you don't eat at your resort. But, it sure is handy to have a restaurant (or two) on location. I didn't plan any ADR's at our hotel (Wilderness Lodge) for last year - I found myself wanting to just stay put a couple nights, but there was nothing available prior to 7:30pm (too late for us). This year, I plan to make at least one ADR for our hotel (Wilderness Lodge, again :) ). But you will be at GF - so many choices outside your hotel are just a monorail away!

The Grand Floridian Cafe might be a good choice for you. Prime Rib, Steak, chicken, fish....nothing too fancy. We had nine in our party last week and everyone enjoyed the meal.

We spent 9 days at CBR last May (on the DP) & never got to try Shutters.
We had character meals booked for almost every night.

I def. dont think its wrong to eat in the restaurants there! Although I do have to say they have a really good food court. I love this roast beef sandwich they have there! You might find something you like! Happy planning!

For us, one of the best perks of the deluxe is not having to schlep from your restaurant out to DTD, then from there back to your resort after dinner, when the buses stop running. If you're doing it for the "upscale experience," why not just stay at a deluxe where you'd like to eat? For example, if you're a meat & potatoes person, you could stay at the Yacht Club and eat out at the Yachtsman Steakhouse, Le Cellier, etc., and then just walk home after dinner.

Cheers!

you can eat wherever you choose..go and have a good time. what a nice trip you've palnned for your wife!:thumbsup2 the gf looks so nice...

Why would it be a sin? Its your vacation, eat where ever you want.

You know, I was so focused on the 2 meal point dinner places, I didn't think to look at the one pointers at the GF close enough. I may end up eating there afterall. Thank you all for the support :)

Not a problem at all. Unless you are eating at V&A's, you can get much better/nicer dinners at other resorts around disney.

I've eaten at all the GF restaurants. Love them all. The buffet at 1900 Park Fare would probably be good for you, not sure if you and your wife want characters though! I totally agree about the Grand Floridian Cafe, it's pretty good American food. I love breakfast there, but dinner is good too. It's a shame room service is 2 credits, as I would recommend you having a romantic exclusive table on your balcony!

As you are on the monorail, you are in easy reach of the Contemporary and the Polynesian, so you are pretty spoilt for choice as far as restaurants close by are.

The hotel is fabulous, you and your wife will have a great time.

I do know how you might feel that way. We just got back from Ocean City Md. and despite the fact that our hotel had a pretty good restaurant, we went to other places to eat. Felt a bit sad that we didn't patronize the hotel restaurant but heck--the other places just had better menus.
So don't wory about it--go where you WANT to eat!!

I completely disagree. You MUST not only eat at the restaurants at your resort, but you should ONLY eat at them! Otherwise, you'll be ridiculed, mocked, and shunned by everyone you know. Your offspring will bear your shame, and your name will be cursed for all eternity!

Or, if you're Catholic, you can just say an Our Father and 10 Hail Mary's, and you're done with it.

Those are the best roast beef sandwichs ever!! They don't look all that special but they taste wonderful, truly a secret treasure at WDW.:)
